Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great
a forest a little fire kindles!
James 3:5
I have yet to meet the perfect person. While we are in this world we are
going to find that things are not perfect. People, our jobs, our homes, our
family, all are lacking perfection. We all have things about us that are
good and things that are bad. Things we work on and would like to change. We
sure do not want anyone or everyone talking about our imperfections and
shortcomings. Neither does God. When we love unconditionally with the love
of God we cover with love instead of exposing others and their shortcomings.
This does not mean we are to be blind to sin and not deal with it. But we
need not turn it into gossip. Taking our concerns to God in prayer is
appropriate. Usually telling everyone about a negative situation only makes
it worse instead of better. Matthew 12:36 But I tell you that men will have
to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have
spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will
be condemned. Something we should certainly keep in mind when we are dealing
with other people. Proverbs 18-21 says The tongue has the power of life and
death and those who love it will eat its fruit. The words we speak can
either bring love, comfort, encouragement, or they can tear down, break, and
destroy. The choice is up to us. As followers of Jesus Christ, our lives are
to display the fruits of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22. But the fruit of the
Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, and self control. The more we yield to the Spirit, the more
these fruits will be evident in our lives, and when dealing with our own
imperfections as well as others we will find a better outcome for all.
Prayer
Lord give me strength to control my mouth, and to refrain from always giving
my opinion but rather to seek you and speak words of hope and encouragement.
Live through my life that others may be uplifted and encouraged, and
restored. In Jesus name I ask. Amen.

James 1:19 - Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
This is one I continue to work on! Sometimes, my little tongue starts flapping long before I've given a good amount of thought to an issue, and I end up tasting my own foot!
The kicker in James is "That no man can tame the tongue." There fore my brethren it HAS TO BE THE HOLY SPIRIT. Another fruit of a truly righteous person. One who can control the tongue.Love overlooks alot of the faults in others. " It is a glory of a man to over look a transgression."
