I don't wish to start anything at all, I just wanted some insight!!! My mother and my grandmother, and Iall posses this gift. But lately listening to other preachers and brothers of the word of God, has led me to doubt wether my gift is authentic. Before you advise me to seek counsel in the Lord, I'll say that I already have and his answers are vague to me, so that I don't comprehend them!! Any comments, info and insight would be more than welcome to me!!! Thanx

Believers and new converts in the record of Gods word received and practised speaking with tongues as God gave the utterance. God said that these gifts would at a future point in time, cease to be. Many teach that that time has already came but, no one has given me a scripture that says that we have passed that appointed time yet. Until there is scriptural proof, I will continue allow God to speak through me if he so desires. If He doesn't chose to do so, I will keep silent. The fact that tongues were placed in the early church cannot be denied and I have never found where Godtook his gift away from the church.
Why I Speak in Tongues
The Benefits of Speaking In Tongues:
[ol][*]To edify you - 1 Corinthians 14:4, Jude 20[*]To speak to God divine secrets - 1 Corinthians 14:2[*]To speak the wonderful works of God - Acts 2:11[*]To magnify God - Acts 10:46[*]To pray perfectly - Romans 8:26,27[*]To give thanks well - 1 Corinthians 14:17[*]To have the Spirit bearing witness with our spirit - Romans 8:16[*]To know you are a joint-heir with Christ - Romans 8:17[*]To strengthen you with might in your inner man - Ephesians 3:16[*]To be a sign to unbelievers - 1 Corinthians 14:22; Mark 16:17[*]Rest to the soul - Isaiah 28:11,12; 1 Corinthians 14:21 [/ol]Praying in the holy spirit

Excellentreply Bro. Snooky. There are some that do not agree with this gift, but that's their opinion. You yourself know wheather it's real or not, or if you've been forced to,and you know the feeling ofcleansing it gives you.
I speak in tongues, however very few people ever hear me speak in tongues..
1st Timothy 4:16 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy and with the laying of of the hands of the eldership. NKJ.
Rev, what does it mean "neglect"? Thank you all so much, Rebel and Snooky, It's helped it really has, may our generous father continue to rain blessings down upon all of you

It means do not overlook, forsake, or cast away... If God has given you a gift, then use it.
That is a gift (present) from God. You wouldn't throw away something God has given you.
1Tim.4:13-16
[13] Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
[14] Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
[15] Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
[16] Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee

When you feel it necessary, that is between you and God.
I have friends that do it in church, and that's their business. I don't in front of unbelivers because they don't understand, and it may drive them away. I pray in tongues in my private closet.
There have been times however when I am baptizing someone, and I lay hands on them, I may speak in tongues, and prophecy over them... Paul said "Let all things be done decently and in order" 1st Cor. 14:40.
I believe Teh Gift of Tongues has a purpose, there are rules as to when and how to use it.
As 1 Corinthians teach ,certainly an interpreter is needed, for as Paul says what benefit does it have ?. If you have it use it according to the word.
Example: What Good is it if I come to you and I say:
"SHA-ALU SHALOM YIRUSHALAYIM
What did I just say to this congregation ?
I speak 4 languages fluently, so when I speak to a an Israeli I speak in Hebrew, if I speak to a greek I speak in Greek, to a spaniard I speak castillian and to a sephardic Jew I speak in Ladino.
Otherwise how are they to come to the knowledge Of Christ.
By the way I said pray for the peace of Jerusalem in hebrew.
