Default Did anyone watch the news about the pope?

I was watching the news this morning and they had a piece about the new pope returning to Germany for the 1st time. There was a large group of kids that were all excited about it because "he is the closest thing to Jesus and God there is" as they stated. I don't doubt the pope's intentions are good but it sure would be nice to see him speak out against what looks like "pope worship" to those not of the catholic faith.

whose teachings inspired the Protestant Reformation and deeply influenced the doctrines of Protestant and other Christian traditions.
I quess that tells you I don't believe in the pope or his teachings of the Bible.
..I'm not so sure God ordained those actions.... removing books after they were in place for 1500 years...I dunno. I grew up Protestant. so I know all about the Reformation, and what caused it...it caused division, and I'm not sure that was of God... I know the Cath church has it's own skeletons to deal with, but starting a "new" sect of religion......again... I dunno......

I might be missing something but all that tells me is what Luther believed in. I didn't think you were a Protestant?

I know what you mean Rem1100,

I grew up Protestant too and we learned all about the reformation but I never knew he removed booksfrom the bible when I was growing up. The reformation was needed but splitting the church when the bible specifically says that we should not be divided kinda feels wrong to me. Seems like every denomination keeps splitting though.

You guys make an excellent point!!! What was needed at the time of the "Reformation" was actually a "Restoration" of the original design of the church! That's what we, in the churches of Christ http://church-of-christ.org/are all about. We do not consider ourselves protestant or catholic, just Christians. In fact all of us have left some form of division (denomination)and united in the one body and the one doctrine of the Bible. We speak where theBible speaks, and we are silent where the Bible is silent. Check us out, I think you'll like what we are doing!
