Something I have often pondered....... obviously IMO there will be at least one more prophet before Christ returns because of the number of warnings given in the NT about false prophets, it doesn't say there will be no more prophets, but does warn of false ones.
Question number one which since I am leaving in a while I will not be able to reply or remark on until tommorrow is this:
1. What are the criteria that would need to be met before Christians should accept some one as a true prophet of God in this day and age?
I am not asking this to start another Mormon thread so please let us stay away from that.
I am asking this out of my own personal curiousity as to what others feel. There I am sure will be some one that will say no way, but I feel strongly there are those like me who wonder the same thing.

Increasingly there's an awareness of the devastation caused by so-called "false memory syndrome" - wrong ideas implanted, through words, into the memory of a person under hypnosis or deep suggestion. Christians today are being bombarded by a barrage of twisted prophetic interpretations which only superficially relate to the real world of Bible prophecy.
Millions live in the false expectation that, "saved", they can relax and await their "rapture" to the great blue yonder before "all hell" breaks loose on planet Earth. Not so. Jesus repeatedly warned of the need for vigilance, for obedience to the Word of God, for guarding our minds from a whole falsely spiritual supermarket stuffed with false prophecies and doctrines of demons.
It's vital your expectation of future events properly reflect God's Word and not the ravings of false prophets sung to the jingle of a bookstore till. Study God's Word. Heed it. Do it. Unless we act on the understanding God graciously imparts to each of us, we will be in danger of deception "because [we] refused to love the truth. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion to make them believe what is false" (II Thessalonians 2: 2:10-12). A frightening thought

The New Heaven and Earth
The final result of the Second Coming will be fulfillment of all the promises of the kingdom of God. Satan will be destroyed, and there will be no more sin, suffering or death.
[blockquote] And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (NIV, Revelation 20:10) "As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear." (NIV, Matthew 13:40-43) Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. (NIV, Revelation 21:1-4) [/blockquote]

When Will Jesus Come Again?
The Bible tells of many events that will occur before the Second Coming and which will be signs that the end is near. There will be wars, famines, earthquakes, false prophets, persecutions, and an increase in wickedness. The Gospel must first be preached to all nations. The temple at Jerusalem would be destroyed. (The temple was in fact destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D.)
Many of Jesus' followers expected Him to return within their lifetimes, and that expectation was supported by several passages such as:
[blockquote] "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away." (NAS, Luke 21:32-33)[/blockquote]
On the other hand, passages such as this one place the Second Coming much farther in the future:
[blockquote] "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a witness to all the nations, and then the end shall come." (NAS, Matthew 24:14)[/blockquote]
No completely satisfactory resolution of these differences in the Bible has ever been found, and the timing of the Second Coming has been a subject of hot debate within Christianity from the beginning. Jesus, Himself, said no one would be able to predict exactly when He would return:
[blockquote] "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come." (NIV, Mark 13:32-33)[/blockquote]
The event, when it happens, will be swift and unexpected:
[blockquote] So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. (NIV, Matthew 24:43-44)[/blockquote]
Over the past 2000 years there have been countless attempts to interpret current events according to the signs in the Bible. There have been innumerable predictions that the Second Coming was imminent. All have been wrong.

Deut 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
Bro.Taz, I believe there will be no Prophet before he comes!
When Is Jesus Christ Coming Again?
Nobody can say with any degree of certainty when Jesus is coming again, because He said clearly that even the angels in heaven do not know that day (see Mark 13:32). No man knows that day, and the Son of God, when He was on the earth, did not know either. This knowledge, the Lord Jesus said, was strictly reserved for the Father.

Mark 13:32,33
[32] But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
[33] Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

Thanks Jim,
I was thinking about that exact scripture but do not have my things here. Taz, I believe in the gift of prophecy. I believe " God reveals His secrets to His servants the prophets."that is another Bible verse.I have had one come to me and the things all came to pass.
Brother Chuck
God tells us in 2 Peter 1:19:"We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts." We are living in dark days: dark morally and spiritually, dark nationally and internationally, dark politically and economically. Prophecy gives light on the path before us. The prophetic word is the only ray of light by which we can know the future. The outlook is dark, but uplook is bright. Prophecy is an incentive to holy living and service to God. We read in 1 John 3:2-3:"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. And every man that hath this hope (of Christ's coming) in him purifieth himself, even as He is pure." The blessed hope for every believer is a call to godliness and holy living.
