sad...it's not the music's fault ?... as a musician, I take offence when genders of music are assulted...ANY gender. the WORDS of a SONG are NOT the MUSIC..rock and roll is a gender of MUSIC..not songs. I DO believe in CHRISTIAN Rock..and have SEEN young kids PRASING the Father and the SON using that gender of music. YOU may not like upbeat tempos..fine... don't bad-mouth it for that reason, that's wrong. what society has done to the music, thru SONGS, isn't the musics fault...............it's societys' fault!!!

Why Don't Christian rock musicians use the name "Jesus" in all their lyrics?
Very often, I hear the critics say that the Christian rock musicians do not use the name of Jesus enough in their lyrics, and therefore the lyrics are too light theologically. I thought it would be fun to take the critic's own guidelines, and apply them to great church music of the past. The critics guidelines, that they apply to Christian rock lyrics, are:
[ul][*]The lyrics of each song must contain the name "Jesus".[*]The words Christ, Savior, Lord, and God do NOT count, because they could be talking about a false Christ, false Savior, false Lord, or false God. The specific name of Jesus pins it down to the Lord Jesus Christ of the Bible.[*]Biblical perspectives on issues are not allowed, because the song must explicitly contain the name "Jesus". [/ul]
When I applied the criteria above to hymns from The Cyber Hymnal, the results astonished me! I thought I was going to have to search long and hard for examples to prove my point. To the contrary - I found that many of the most famous and most loved hymns do not say the name "Jesus" at all! If you criticize Christian rock artists for not explicitly using the name "Jesus", then you have to criticize the great men and women of faith pictured below.
I have a little quiz for you Christian rock critics. Name each composer above, and the hymn they wrote that does not contain the name "Jesus".
Here is one answer to get you started: yes, there IS a picture of Fanny Crosby there. Her hymns "I Am Thine, O Lord" and "Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior" (at least) do not contain the name "Jesus". Are you going to criticize her the way do Christian rock artists? Why not? The answer is simple, you like Fanny's music, and not Christian rock.
Incidentally, for Christian rock fans - the pencil sketch is NOT Rebecca St. James. The lady pictured is Sarah Fuller Flower Adams 1805-1848. She wrote "Nearer, My God, to Thee".

I list the hymns below in a spirit of reverence and respect, not just to say "I told you so". Please read them not for what is absent - the name "Jesus", but for what IS there - great messages of faith and love for Him. And when you listen to Christian rock, listen to it for the great messages of faith and love for Jesus Christ, even when His name is not mentioned explicitly as it is not in these songs.

Incidentally, if you expand the criteria to include the name "Christ", as well as Jesus, you are still left with 19 hymns here that do not use the names "Jesus" or "Christ". If you add "Savior" to the list, there are still 12 hymns (or half of the list).

I like all kinds of music. If it is filthy I change the station. A love song or a rock song about saturday in the park makes me feel good and love to sing along with them. With my kids I don't major on the minors. Might be wrong but so far we all still love each other laugh and play together. If I hear them listening to something I don't agree with I mention it and say why and leave it in their hands. I don't hit them, yell at them, or argue with them. I just love em. Seems to work for me.

We are in a spiritual warfare, and those who do not have the Spirit abiding within will likely not understand the spiritual guidance that is so helpful here. Music is a spiritual expression of an inter condition that exists with in a man. 1 Cor 2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Verse 12: Now we have recieved not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God: that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. There are messages transfered in the words, AND in the spirit of the music. Not all music must be found in the hymnal to be exceptable to listen to. Also there is so called christian music (so called)which should be shunned. Example, The scripture teaches that faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. It (the scripture)also asks the question, How shall they hear without a preacher. The bible also teaches to Forsake not to assemble yourselves together as the manner of some is. All these are basic fundmentals of bibical faith. Some years back there was a very popular song titled, "Me and Jesus". The words said, we got our own thing going, me and Jesus, we got it all worked out. It taught that churches were not needed, preachers were not needed, instruction was not needed. It taught that every man should just do what was right in his own eyes and forget what the bible taught. Many churches banned it from being sang in their assembly. Those who had a rebellious nature and resented scriptural authority thought this was terrible and used it as an excuse to quit church and start their own groups who rejected the scriptural oversite and authority, (some of you younger fellows who lump all pentecostals together could do a little historical research, you might find it quite helpful). This is an area where the "hearing the voice of God" is most helpful. The bible teaches to shun every appearance of evil. One should be close enough to God to hear his still small voice (some define that as insane because they never have heard him), and know without having to consult the bible for conformation that a song is not in keeping with scripural guidelines and avoid those that are not exceptable. The Word and the Spirit agree, The Holy Ghost want tell you anything different that that which the bible teaches. It will however save you from making the wrong move when you don't have time to go do a search of the scripture to find the answer.
I beleave that you shouldn't put down other metheds proclaiming the gospel of Christ.

The kind that promotes drinking - drugs - sex and other such

That means that some music shouldn't be listioned to.
What you put in your ears matter.
So listion to the things that uplift GOD and not the world.

I hope my computer doesn't freeze. My Bible helps are not here so I won't be able to have alot of scripture references but....I will be speaking His word.
Music is extremely powerful as spoken by Solomon "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." Jesus warned " We are responsibel for every IDLE word." " We are no longer ourselves." So many Christians want the best of both worlds.Do you want to have a great day. Start it off with " songs, hymns or spiritual songs giving thanks." He is worthy of our praise.
What is the message of the world. The message is mostly about things where Paul says " It's a shame to even speak of those things " and "Let it not once be named of you." Why glory in the things that we have been delivered from.
Yes , as a guitar player I get tempted to jam. I don't know how many tapes I have bought as a Christian and smashed. Arero Smith, Lynard Skynard, etc. Why...If I listen to them very long I end up buying some beer. If I drink beer and get on the Internet I'm ashamed to say what site I might go too.
Romans12:1 "BE not comformed to this world by be ye transformed. And Christian rock. My son's had tons of them.You have to read the lyrics from an aid because you certainly can't figure out much what they are saying. I think we are worried the young people won't except Christ in the normal way. SO we lure them in with fleshly manipulatives. Problem there...most conversions don't last long.
Bottom line. If it doesn't give glory to God ......leave it. If you love the world. Repent!! 1 John says "For all that is of th eworld is not of the Father, the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life."
I was led astray as a teen. I listened to tons of Black Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad etc. A man is known by the company he keeps. What kind of music would yu like to be listening too when Jesus comes back. ? DO you love Him? Serve Him with your whole heart ,not half.
