Friends,
I am sincerely interested in knowing the ends and outs of the Gothic trend. I know a close relative who has gotten in it. I know they wear black and listen to hard punk music. I also suspect this individual is doing drugs. Can someone give me some more imformation. It is a strong movement down here in Lakeland.

Brother Chuck Goths as they are called here seem to be for the most part exactly the opposite of what they appear. Generally they are very shy and actually respectful, the way they dress is more for shock and attention then anything, every one of them I have ever talked to were very polite and respectful. Now don't get me wrong, there are some that mess around with drugs, but they are for the most part non-violent.

I did some research and here were my findings,
1. The black represents the lonely empty soul. They feel they have been ripped off in this world and don't fit in.
2. From experience working close to this individual...it mostly starts by listening to hard punk music.
3.Very high suicide rate. Last month his best friend was found hung. His music was found beside him. The picture on one CD was a man sticking a pistol in his mouth. The 20 year played a black guitar which was given to me. I put new strings on it and did a bridge job. Then they came back later wanting the guitar. I gave it up.
4. Bacause of all the different people involved here in Gothics it invites all kinds of religions including Wica ,Pagan, New Age, and Satanic.
Parents...Be careful with the music you are letting your children listen too. This individul I'm talking about picked up on this music from friends at a Youth church group.
To me these are pepole that could not find attention the normal way and this
is a way of getting it. It sure gets mine!
As far as drugs goes, nurses, doctors, lawyers, judges do it,and the list goes on.
It does'nt have to be street bought drugs, how millions of people in this country
are hooked on prescription drugs?
Brotheren, we have to be so vigilant of our children today, cause of drug use in
this country. They even hear about alot of Atheletes that are using them.
Just because we are Christians and take our children to church every Sunday
does'nt mean they are safe from this corrupted World. Educate yourselves about
drug use, to tell if one of your children is under the influence. They are experts
on covering up the use.
Even in Law Enforcement they are giving drug test's at random to thier employee's.
Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention about our Governor Jeb Bush's daughter, she has
been busted twice, that we know of, for buying illegal prescription drugs!

Well, working in Baltimore some, I see alot of it. Know alot of people into it or at least thier children.
What I see is mostly children that are rebelling hard against thiere parents and society in general. Most I see end up in trouble. Their whole theme is isolation and hate. Mostly "like minded teens" and people in thier 20's, who are generally pushed out of the "inner circle" at school or the popular crowd. They are generally not athletes, the partiers. So they get to gether and figure, ok, there are more of us than we figured, and instead of us trying to be pretty, or glamorous, lets go the other end of the scale. Boy, do I relate. Anyway, when you get negative minded people together, there negativity can grow 10 fold. They feed off of each other. The kids I seen, seem to either grow out of it, or grow deeper and deeper into hopelessness. Most like drugs and alcohol. And as there are several ex drug users on this page as myself, its easy to go the next step up after trying one drug.
But its what our society produced. They push makeup and glamor on TV, billboards. They put the standards up so high, some kids can never reach them. God and religioun is a joke to alot of kids. Parents too busy to try. All these kids wanted to belong somewhere. Some parents are innocent. They just can't keep up with the money, the cars to make sure thier children belong in this group. My mother as example. Without my father, she did the best she could. Our society forgot to help the less fortunate. Or we have been so overwelmed with the corruption, we figure we can't do any good anyway.
When I was younger, if there were goths around, I would have been a member. In Ky, the low class was called Quimes. don't know why. And I was one. So when the rich and popular won't accept you, you embrace the people that will. I don't know how I escaped out of the group. I can recall a few key moments in life that pushed me out but can't pinpoint it. Some of my friends did not.

This was what I was looking for. The close relative is my middle son. My eldest was truly a baseball, basketball star. Andrew did not hae the motor skills. He felt left out. So...........we got him to martial arts which is much more costly than baseball.We did that for 1 1/2 yearsMatt my oldest is built and extremely strong. Andrew is a 6'7" bean pole very smart though.Andrew 18 has moved out and is hanging with th egothics. He appears to be getting distant all the time unless he needs me to work on his car.

Chuck, brother some things are out of your control. I suspect this is one of them. This path he's on may be like mine and will have a happy ending one day.
I mean think about this, if I still had control of my own life, making the money, doing great in life, would I have turned to God.Nope.
I mean, my mother is a saint to me. She did all she could. She did simular things like Karate, trying to get me in basketball, baseball. But it all turned on her like a gun. In basketball, I ended up getting into fights cause I was no good, and walked away from the team. In baseball, ended up getting nailed three times in the face. Walked away.
But hey, for a gal who lost her husband to a war in 1972, she now has two sons, both accepting Christ, both finally graduating from college, both stayed out of the jailhouse. So she didn't do too shabby. God had a plan.

YOu know my youth was not a bed of roses either. The scary thing is many of my old friends are dead. To my knowledge out of about 12 of us I was the only one who became a Christian. I do pray for him. Like you said ...this one is out of my hands. Since he is smart he did very well in Karate. I didn't realize how smart one had to be. Some of those forms for the belts had around 50 steps to memorize.

this is absolutely true.
i can speak from experience, as i was into that scene when i was younger.
What are the Gothics all about.
