Default Shocked

I was listening to an AM talk radio program yesterday afternoon that the host had recorded when he went to the U of M to try and witness to some of the college kids. I couldn't believe it when I heard this large group of students argueing with him about the validity of the bible? I have always had my questions and I wasn't the best person in college either but I never would have shrugged off the bible like these kids were doing. They basically compared it too Esops Fables and should be taken just as literally. It hasn't been THAT long since I was in college but I don't recall SO many people that adment about denying the bible, maybe I just hung out in different circles than these folks.

Is this how it is getting across the country?

Yes, half of my students go to church. They can't tell me why we celebrate Christmas or Easter. At least that's what I found out with last years students. What are our churches teaching?

It seems that most colleges are very liberal, and oppose any kind of religious beliefs.

As for what "churches" are teaching, I just don't know. In the last few years I've seen umpteen different "worship centers" pop up, in everything from dilapidated old buildings to brand-new monster sizebuildings that resemble a small college campus. A child that went to one of these told me about his experience at one (I can't say this is the case with all of course). He said they ate hamburgers and watched movies. I notice a lot of them advertise themselves as "non-denominational" and "all beliefs welcome". I can't help but take that as "anything goes".

You don't have to look hard to find a "church" that will cater to anything you want to believe--if you want to believe there is no God, and the earth was originally "stocked" with the human race by an alien, there is a "church" for you (Scientology). You can worship nature, celestial bodies, other humans, the devil......or anything else you can imagine. L. Ron Hubbard (founder of Dianetics, later to become the church of Scientology) was quoted as saying something along the lines of "if you want to get rich quick, start your own religion". L. Ron Hubbard was a science fiction writer before he came up with the idea of "Dianetics".

Most people seem to have a need to believe in a higher power; unfortunately many are too selfish and/or lazy to devote the time to figuring out that God is the only higher power, and that He commands us to worship him in spirit and in truth. Rather, they will go to some feel-good, have it your way group that will pat them on the back instead of stepping on their toes, or allow some energetic, enthusiastic nutcase brainwash them.

That's my 2 cents anyhow.

Oh, Bro.Chuck, the parents are saying that you are not teaching thier child
disipline and about Easter and Christmas. Bad teacher!

You know Bro.Chuck, IMHO I believe that Christianity in a child starts before
conception. How the parents live thier lives is how that child is going to
follow. If someone does'nt intervine in that childs life before it's to late, he
will be just like these college students.
Friends have some influence on behavior, but most of it reflects back to it's
parents and the home up bringing.

The Christian beliefs in this country are diminishing more and more every day.
These times are very crucial in bringing children into this world and it's not going
to get better.

Yes Rem, I believe it's the begining,

John 19,20
[19] If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
[20] Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

In the elementary we are allowed to teach why we celebrate holidays.
I take full advantage on the following and hit them fully..
Columbus Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas
Martin Luther
Easter
Saint Patrick
My principal loves Jesus and preaches at the women's prison every Sunday . She is a godly women. She also gave me an extra week off to go hunting.in Nov.
Rebel is correct. No church or Sunday school can take the place of the parents obligation of bringing their children up in the Lord. that is not an option that is a command. To set them on our lap at an early age and teach them the precepts of God.

Deuteronomy 6:5-9 "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."

If parents aren't teaching, the kids will not get it. It is the parents responsibility.
