Default The Character of God

My grandmother is a great prayer warrior. She prays from 9:00pm till 4:00am every day. She also writes down her thoughts quite often. This is one of the things she wrote that really inspired me so I thought I would share it with you. It is uplifting and exciting to know that we have an Almighty God on our side as our Provider, Healer, Banner, Peace, Shepherd, Righteousness, and Salvation, and that He is always here with us!

He is Worthy of Our Praise

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! One of God"s primary purposes for creating man was for fellowship of which praise is an important part. As created beings we all like to be praised. Children long for the praise of their parents and peers. Adults long for the praise from their loved ones, employers, and peers. Likewise, God who is worthy of praise expects it of His children. It seems however, that praise in the life of many Christians is either non-existent or watered down, so that it doesn"t resemble the praise described in the scriptures. Many of us find the time to praise everything but God. Until we learn to praise Almighty God who alone is worthy of our praise, we have missed our one true reason for being.
God chose to reveal Himself to mankind from the first verse recorded in Genesis. He unfolds His nature and character to man little by little, letting man know He alone is all powerful and totally sufficient. It is impossible to understand Him except by divine revelation. He is worthy to be praised because his character is unchanging. Here are some ways He has revealed Himself to us:

He is Elohim - meaning "the Fullness of Deity", "God-Very God", or "Supreme God" (Gen. 1:1).

He is Adonai - meaning "LORD" or "Master" (Gen. 24:7, Ex. 23:17). The title "LORD" speaks of God"s unlimiting power and authority, just as a master had unlimited power over a slave.

He is Yahweh - meaning "I AM WHO I AM", the "Eternal One", uncaused and independent. (Ex. 3:14). God"s personal name Yahweh invokes His merciful and righteous character.

He is El Shaddai - meaning "Almighty God" (Gen. 17:1; 28:3; 35:11). This word is similar to a word for "mountain" to which God"s strength and endurance can be compared. This Hebrew name is used by or in the hearing of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. In 35:11 God used His great name to attest His strong relationship with Jacob.

He is Tsabhaoth - meaning "The Lord of Hosts" - a military designation referring to God as the One who commands the angelic armies of heaven (1 Sam. 1:3). He is worthy to be praised because through His nature He imparts to us all we need for a victorious life.

He is Jehovah-Jireh - meaning "The Lord Will Provide" (Gen. 22:14). As God provided a ram instead of Abraham"s son, so one day He would provide His own Son. Moriah is where Jerusalem and later the temple were built. And it was at Calvary, near Jerusalem, that the Saviour would die. Through the blood of Jesus Christ eternal life has been recorded and power and the embodiment of every spiritual gift of God is provided to us by the Holy Ghost.

He is Jehovah Rapha - meaning "The Lord Who Heals You" (Ex. 15:26). This testifies to the mercy and power of God. The world which was totally alienated from God needed to be healed physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Jesus became the instrument for this healing. Every sin was placed on Him at the cross and by His stripes we are healed (Is. 53:5). According to Psalm 103:3, He heals our diseases - every one! Psalm 147:3 tells us that He heals the broken hearted. Our total and complete healing comes from the Lord!

He is Jehovah Nissi - meaning "The Lord is My Banner" (Ex. 17:15). This name was given to an altar as a memorial of victory over the Amalekites. With God as our banner of victory, how can we not praise Him?

He is Jehovah Shalom - meaning "The Lord is our Peace" (Judges 6:24). The Lord is our peace, our health, our happiness, our security, our rest. He promises us these things throughout scripture and He will honor His covenant with us!

He is Jehovah Raah - meaning "Our Shepherd" (Psalm 23, John 10). As our Shepherd He is responsible for the care of His flock. He finds pasture with sufficient food and water. He rescues us, protects us, and guides us. He cares for our every need!

He is Jehovah Tsidkenu - meaning "The Lord Our Righteousness" (Jer. 23:6; 33:16). This name characterizes the ideal King. One who would establish the true righteous rule. His righteousness has called a people and declared them to be righteous. We cannot do this for ourselves, but praise the Lord that He became sin that we might become the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Cor. 5:21).

He is Jehovah Shammah - meaning "The Lord is There" (Eze. 48:35). The Lord was forced to depart from the city and the temple because of the wickedness of the Israelites but here, Ezekiel foresees the return of God in all His glory to His people. In Psalm 139 David asks where he can go and not find Jehovah Shammah. In verse 5 David declares that God is in front of him, behind him, and rests His hand upon him. David could not find a place where God was not. We are not alone for He is with us wherever we may be, in whatever circumstance we may find ourselves.

And last of all He is Yeshua HaMashiach -Jesus the Messiah - Our Salvation! Praise His Holy Name!

Actually if you look closer you will see that she prays from 9pm to 4am. She is 82 years old so she doesn't have to work. She sleeps late into the morning and takes naps during the day.

Sister Lizzie I would say at her age and the prayer she has earned the right to sleeping late and naps! She sounds like a wonderful woman and a powerful influence.

Her prayer life must be an awesome testimonie. I've done a few inidividual DAYS of prayer for 4 - 5 hours and that was incredible. To do more than that EVERY DAY is remarkable and very impressive. We all need to spend more time praising God.
