10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. Good..{ kal os} honest, worthy,fair, virtuous. This is what our shepherd is. He laid His very life down for us to have life. Life is what it"s all about..and Christ laid His down"so that we might have life here and in the future world. "A good shepherd", delivers the flock from the wolf, and from the lions, so he that leads Israel, if he is good, delivers them from the idolatrous nations, and from judgment below and above, and leads them to the life of the world to come, or eternal life.
10:12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. A hireling is only worried about his paycheck. If the going gets too rough he is gone. As he leaves ,there is confusion and the devil scatters the sheep. Why? Because the sheep are not His anyway. The only one who truly cares for the sheep would be the owner. He has made this promice. Herbrews 13:5b "for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."
10:13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. He knows us"and we know Him. Not just about Him"but we know Him. That word also means to be sure of. Christ has an universal, special, distinct, and exact knowledge of all his sheep, as they are the choice of his Father, as his Father's gift to him; and as his own purchase; he bears an affectionate love to them, and takes special care of them; indulges them with intimate communion with himself; and owns and acknowledges them as his, both here and hereafter:
10:15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. Now he is saying to these jews. I know the Father.in a very real way. He also knows that He will be laying His life down "for the sheep."
10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
And yes future sheep, they will hear His voice as well. They shall hear my voice. But how many folds? According to this passage""there shall be one fold." And one shepherd. Many buildings but in general"..one fold and one shepherd whose name is Jesus. Jesus is the only way to the Father. Everything else according to Jesus is a lie.
Take strength ,and knowing that He laid down His life for you and I He gave all He could give. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Yes ,as rotten as sin is Christ became sin that we may be made the righteousness of God in Him. Only a good shepherd would do such a thing. He truly does care for us.
That"s why we remember His death often , It"s only because of His shed blood that we have hope in this world and in the world to come. He truly is the good shepherd.

Am I correct in assuming that this passage is speaking of grace being extended to the Gentiles. Being grafted in to the vine? Good verses, He is the good shepherd and we can trust Him for all of life's "wolves", He will lead us beside the still waters and restore our souls.
