Since the topic of Mormons came up I am curious as to the beliefs of Jehovahs Witness. Can anyone sum up for me the differences they have in beliefs to most Christians?
I hope this doesn't turn into a "bash the JW'S", thread as the Morman thread did. To study ones belief is quite alright, to bash his right to that belief,is something else.
The JW's were founded by Charles Taze Russel. They teach that there is only one Mighty God, "Jehovah", Jesus is a lesser god and isn't to be worshipped. Only Jehovah is worthy of worship. To make it easier to defend their doctrine, the KJ version of the bible, (which was used to build their organization upon for years", was replaced with their own version, translated by a 5 man committee. Their offical publishing branch is The WatchTower. The WatchTower is said to be a group of spiritual leaders who issue instruction for the flock of Jehovah. C. T. Russell taught that the bible wasn't sufficient to save one by its use alone. One must also have his "Studies in the Scripture" to be saved. They have become well known for setting dates for prophecy to come to pass. The date for the fulfilling of Rev 1:7-9 has been set several times. When no one ever witinessed this event, the teaching was changed to "every SPIRITUAL eye", would see him. As late as the 1980's this event was being said to happen. To be saved, one must spend a set amount of time witnessing for Jehovah, thus the continued door knockers. There are volumns upon volumns available for study. Every second hand store has used books for sale for pennies.
I hope this doesn't turn into a "bash the JW'S", thread as the Morman thread did. To study ones belief is quite alright, to bash his right to that belief,is something else.
Thanks Snooky, that is what the forum is supposed to be about. One of my grandmothers was a JW, my father loved his mother dearly, but despised JW's because he felt he was robbed of much of his child hood due to some of thier beleifs that were forced on the family by his mother. Some JW's are very devout in thier faith, not that I agree with what they believe, but I do admire some of thier followers fevor in their faith.
If I am not mistaken one of their beliefs is that there will only be 144,000 saved people, I could be wrong on this, correct me if I am wrong some one, they base this on Revalations.

Bro.Snooky, they put all thier faith inJW's before thier spouses.
I have a cousin that had to raise his 4 small children, because he
would not follow his wife into the JW faith. Spouses are taught
to let nothing stand in your way of thier faith to jehovah.

I talked to one for about 2 hours. I thought I would do quite well. At that time I had lots of the Bible memorized. Forget it. Every verse I was going to use...there's has been rewritten.
Chuck
They use the New World Bible.
I will not bash your deleave in god but If I am not mistaken the man that started the JW left with all the money and in a interveiw he said that it was started because he needed the money I saved the interview with him I had to go back and see if that was right and thats what was said let me find it again and i will give you the name and the date that this was sopose to take place. It has been many years ago I had JW come to my door and I had to ask them about these they said they did not have time to talk about and left?
Are they the ones who show up and give me those little paper books? They're always nice and friendly, and sometimes the pamlets have something interesting.
In my studies of the JW movement, I don't recall C.T. Russell leaving with the money. He has been dead for years now. If there is such proof of this happening, I would be interested in seeing a copy.
