Default John 8: 37-44 The children of The devil

Happy Father"s Day!!
The rest of chapter 8 goes together , but to do this chapter justice we will split it up a few times. We are in no hurry. Also ,please feel free to disagree and make comments. I learn a lot from you folks. Twenty heads are better than one.

8:37 I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. Although they were convenant people and had the scripture and were pure bred jews, they were not circumcised in their hearts. They had an outward religion. They missed the heart of the Old Testament message for surely if they had it they would not be trying to kill Jesus. I actually see some of that here. A lot of Christians will give big, read their Bibles and pray but please Lord ,don"t have me love that person, he doesn"t believe like I do. They just get under my skin. And yet it"s the same problem that these jews had. When one truly knows God, love is produced. 1 John : 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. Why isn"t their love. Because he said,"My Word has no place in you. The Word produces the love.1John2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

8:38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. Again, Jesus makes it no secret who His source is. He and the Father are one. John 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 14:11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. The jews had a very hard time excepting this concept.

8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. Why is this. Abraham was a doer of the Word. James:2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? The Word in these jews did not produce love because it wasn"t mixed with a working faith. God"s kind of faith works. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus UNTO GOOD WORKS, which God hath before ordained that we SHOULD WALK IN THEM.

8:40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. Now at his moment! You seek to kill me. Folks, God"s Word produces love not murder. I can"t understand how these some of these folks in the middle east can justify murdering others. The same may be said with our attitudes toward others. The Word of God when it is working effectively produces love toward others not animosity and resentment toward others.

8:41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. 8:41 Ye do the deeds of your father.
Then said they unto him, we be not born of fornication:
meaning either literally, that they were not a brood of bastards, children of whoredom, illegitimately begotten in unlawful copulation, or wedlock; or figuratively, that they were not the children of idolaters, idolatry being called fornication in Scripture; but that they were the holy seed of Israel, and children of the prophets, who had retained the pure word, and the true worship of God, though in all this they might have been contradicted and refuted; to which they add,
we have one Father, [even] God;
Israel being called by God his Son, and firstborn to them belonged the adoption, in a national sense, and of this they boasted; though few of them were the children of God by special adoption, or God their Father by regenerating grace.
8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. We have already drilled this one. A relationship with God whether in the Old or New Testament produces love. Like Jesus said before. Matthew 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits.

8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Tt baffles me how that some really don"t understand. Why can"t they hear? "They had no spiritual discerning and understanding of the doctrine of Christ, which showed them to be carnal, and natural men, and not regenerate ones, and the children of God."

8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. According to this it seems there are only two main fathers..God and the Devil.
1 John3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
Satan is the Father of every lie. He was a murder from the beginning. Remember the thought he put in Cain"s heart. Jealousy of another brother getting blessed brought murder. 1 John:3:12 Not as Cain, who was of that WICKED ONE, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

Jesus is getting to the heart of the matter here. Trouble is"as we will see tomorrow His preaching is about to get Him killed.

May the Lord work the following prayer of Paul effectively in all of our hearts.

3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
3:18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
3:19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
3:21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Chuck; The sad part of all this is that the ones who were determined to kill Jesus, were the ones who had the greatest knowledge of the written word. Their knowledge destroyed their ability to look at anything spiritual, with an open mind and honest heart. Is it any wonder that Jesus said,"Ye must be born again"? Many learned scholars today are lacking any spiritual understanding of the Word. 1 Cor 2:14 Because they are spiritually discerned.

Have a nice Fathers Day.

Very good insight Snooky. That's why He said yuo must become blind so that you can see. Those who think they can see He said are really blind.

LOL Brother Chuck, I'm feeling my toes being stepped on here a little. I know that this is where we may differ a little in our beliefs. I do feel that we are to love everyone . .our brothers and neighbors, however there is but one truth and one can love a person but refuse to have fellowship with a lie. There are many false doctrines and religions in the world today just as there always have been. There is a difference to me in not loving a person and not patronizing a false doctrine or religion. There are many scriptues that speak of this. Sure we are to walk in love, but at the same time we are representatives of the truth, declaring the truth, and not undercover agents working covertly agreeing with everything to win folk over. I really enjoy your posts and hope you don't take this as an attack on you for it is not meant to be. I simply feel that folk may take me often to be loveless for the way that I believe. I try to be as gracious as I can be without compromising my beliefs. My prayers are with every member that posts here continualy.

Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
2Th 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.
2Th 3:14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.
2Th 3:15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
And many more!!

I agree Motor that Chuck has done well and that the word of God is undisputable. I'm simply pointing out a distiction between those that sought to kill Christ and those who follow Christ. How can we equate a Christian that will not embrace a false religion with these in John 8:37? They were not refusing to embrace a lie, but were refusing to accept Christ for who He was.

Leaf,
You know me by now. I always see everything you and Motor say in love. I know you folks love the Lord. I do understand exactly what you are saying Leaf. There are some I don't want them to think they are doing fine when I honestly believe otherwise. That is always a tough call. NOw when it comes to just minor denonminational stuff......nah I can let all that go. That is truly a tough call though Leaf and honestly, I don't have that one quite hammered down yet. I believe relationships are a situation by situation call. Any unless I get a word from the Lord to advoid....I will love them. This area does take discernment.
Thanks Motor and Leaf for replying,
Chuck

Yep Chuck, I can let minor denominational stuff go too. My measuring stick is whether or not Christ is in it. I think " christian " means "Christ in". As far as the denomination goes, I feel that a person on the road with Christ may find himself in most any denomination. But if he is yielding himself to Christ will know truth. Whether or not a person is a member of a church no more makes him a christian than going to a KFC makes you a chicken leg.

The writting one's name on a roll and shaking the preacher's hand is simply a waste of good paper, ink, and time. One still must be born again of water and the Spirit to be saved and have fellowship with God. If any have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
We are in a spiritual warfare and the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God. These lessons have been showing the conflict between Jesus and the Jews who knew the letter of the Law but not the giver of the Law. We are still confronted with unbelieving church members today that would, and will attempt to kill ones spiritual walk with God. They, as the unbelieving Jews, know the letter, but deny the power thereof. If they sought to do that to the green tree, what shall the do to the dry tree?

It is one thing to know the Word in your head, this does not lead one to Salvation, for if the Word is not in your heart not only will one not understand the Word, they can not live the Word.
