Default Sanctified

The Greek word "Hagiadzo" in the New Testament has three basic meanings: [ol][*]To set apart, for a special purpose.[*]To purify by expiation, meaning for God to declare that someone is sanctified, or holy.[*]To cleanse internally, or spiritually, by a reformation of the soul. [/ol] 1 Cor. 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified (Greek perfect tense of hagiadzo = permanently sanctified) in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours But when, as we read on in Paul's First Letter to the Church at Corinth and find that the recipients of Paul's letter were: [ol][*]Arguing and divided in Chapter 1:10-14.[*]Carnal and immature in Chapter 3:1-3.[*]Condoning immorality in Chapter 5.[*]Suing each other in civilian court in Chapter 6:1-11.[*]Getting drunk and not sharing food at the Lord's Supper in Chapter 11:18-22.[*]Tending to not believe in the resurrection of the dead in Chapter 15:12-18. [/ol] How could it be, that this group of people at Corinth were permanently "sanctified"?

Leaf,
I promiced myself this morning to stop replying alot. I feel in my heart that I am coming across as a Mr. No It All and I am offending folks. THAT, I don't want to do.
However; you have hit on a very interesting post. One that can change the heart.MINE.

1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's:

{ hagiazo} purify or consecrate ,
Brother Leaf I do not get that diffinition in my study.
Holy as I understand generally means to be set apart which also means consecrate. Sanctify in my understasnding means to make clean.
However; their are scriptures that do say what you are saying to some degree. I will pull them up.

Ephesians1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
In conclusion ,if I'm coming across as a dip stick please tell me to take a hike and I will.
Chuck

Naw Chuck, You need to lighten up on yourself. Your posting is fine and I'm sure that we all enjoy your input.
It's just that as I was reading these verses that I wondered how this church could be considered sanctified if they were guilty of all the things that Corinthians says they were. How could they be considered purified or consecrated. The context of these scriptures are not jiving in my mind and I was wanting the input of anyone that can put this into perspective for me.

Leaf,
I honestly don't know that much. I'm living by faith like everyone else. Here are my views on verses like those.
1. One Christian author Andrew Murrey believes somehow God is going to save us all in the end. Sure would be nice but just in case I'm giving her my best shot.
2. Paul in faith uses this language aas he see us in our best.K ind of like looking through the eyes of faith.
3. Possibly he is referring to those real Christians in the church and not talking to everyone. Remember the parable in Mt. 25 Jesus said the tares and wheat would grow together.

Leaf and Snooky, please be Christian enough to put me in my place when you sense I might be embarassing myself. For I can't see the trees because of the forest.
I trust your judgment. Just send me a PM when I might need to chill out.
Thanx,
Chuck

Chuck, I don't know if I'm having trouble with this verse because I'm trying to fit it in with what I believe or if I'm reading too much into it. I'm one of those that believes that we will not all make it. My leaning is more toward your #2 and #3 possibilities. In view of scriptues such as 1Peter 4:18 "And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?", it seems that #1 could not be an option.

Leaf,
I hear ya,
They are some pretty serious scriptures. Serious enough to make me want to stay on the straight and narrow. Rebel Hog seems like a very nice man. I remember alot of his previous post. Seems like God really has a hold of him. Good people.

Bro Leaf; Good to have you back. I don't claim to have any revelation here but I think Chuck may have already touched on something when he suggested that Paul may not have been speaking to every one at the same time. I am sure that there were those who were on a higher plain than others. Some may not have been saved at all, just along for the fishes and loafes. God could have also been calling those things which were not as though they already were. God may have been looking at them as they would be after Paul got through reproving, rebuking, exorting, ect. I am sure that some were not guilty of any of the things mentioned. Others were guilty and repented. Some just got mad at Paul for "meddeling" in thier business and quit the church because, "he didn't have love or he wouldn't preach like that". Others there thatwere right may have fell from their steadfastness and became a "lost sheep". Could he have been speaking about those who were going to come out of the carnal mess that they were in? Just somethings to look at.
