Default John 8:12-20, Jesus is the Light

I'm trying to fill big shoes here, (Chuck's)so bear with me!
John 8:12-20 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." I can't eat without a light on, my wife thinks I'm crazy, but I like to see what I'm eating! In life we will never really see things as they truly are unless we are looking at life through the "light" of the Lord Jesus! Without Christ the world is just fumbling around, bumping into things, getting hurt &groping for truthbut never finding it! We need Jesus, our light in this dark world!
So the Pharisees said to him, "You are bearing witness about yourself; your testimony is not true." Jesus answered, "Even if I do bear witness about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from or where I am going. You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for it is not I alone who judge, but I and the Father who sent me. In your Law it is written that the testimony of two men is true. I am the one who bears witness about myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness about me.Slam! Jesus reasons and always comes out on the top! He has such common sense. These guys are trying to be so smart and trick Him, but He always sees through it. Notice He tells them that His testimony IS true, and He couples His words with the fact that God the Father bears witness of Him also! If they had only read the Old Testament and believed, if only they could have accepted Him as the Savior!!! But God knew their hearts, and that they would choseevil, and would not turn, at least not all of them, (Nicodemus & Joseph of Arimathea did follow Christ, even though they were a part of the Sanhedren)as it is written in Galatians 4:4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, so it was the perfect time to send Jesus so that God's plan of redemption for the world would be enacted. There's alot more I could say from this verse, but I'm suposed to keep it short!
" They said to him therefore, "Where is your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also." These words he spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple; but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come. Boom! Setting the record straight! The thing is, why didn't His own disciples get it, even up to this point they still are thinking of a "physical" kingdom, when Jesus is prepareing them for a "Spiritual" kingdom! Notice He's right in their "back-yard", but the Pharisees either"don't" or "can't"touch Him. Again, the fact that God the Father is in control cannot escape the reader's mind! Praise God!

Nice job Trae,
Brother, you don't have to keep it short. I enjoy hearing your comments. Very nice job. You are right. Everything they needed was in the Old Testament. Because of sin and unbelief, they missed it.
Thanks brother,
Please feel free to be yourself,
Chuck

Trae,
I hope it's OK to expound a little on what this verse means to me. I missed not doing my study last night . I need to do some in advance. Idleness is the devil's workshop. Lesson learned.

"I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

You and I are a "whoever." It doesn't say might not walk in darkness,it says will not walk in darkness ............IF ,I follow Him. I'm preaching to myself here. How do we follow Him. Possible answer for me would be consistant EVENING Bible study.... Morning and evening prayer and making a conscious effort of obeying His voice as I serve others joyfully. The opposite.....Put Bible study off till a more convenient time. Pray tomorrow. And then spend the evening gosipping. Yeah...as long as we are following Christ we relect His light and will not fall. This word is for me.

Brother Goose, so far you are fitting just fine in Chucks shoes, slightly different style, but still a good fit! As you pointed out so well, Christ is the light to take us through the darkness of this world.

I'll be leaving next Friday for a two week stay in Oradea, Romania. Their is a small church there we are going to be working with. The team which I am a part of has been preparing since January to teach English by using the Bible. The material is really good. They have a web-site, http://www.weiady.org/
Anyway, I'm excited to go and teach, we'll have about 7-8 students a day, (long day!)But the interest is high over thereto learn English. So that's a huge incentive to the folks there.Prayers would be appreciated, this is where "Count Dracula" is from! Really, do pray for me and the team, mabey I'll give some updates while there, and more when I return.
Trae

God speed my brother,
And you will diffently be in our prayers. We have a good group of believers here. I've seen some incredible growth from the short 7 months I've been here. Me for one.I was on the road to despair before I turned into this sweet haven of rest.
God bless,
Chuck

PS Why all the editing? As a teacher I feel real bad when I reread and find spelling errors. LOL
