8:1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. I was there and got a soil sample. It is about ¼ mile due east of the Golden Gate. The gate that God permanently closed. It"s about 2 foot thick of rock. It will be opened again when the Son of God walks through it.,PRAISE GOD!!
8:2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. The temple . maybe ½ mile from the Mount of Olives. Now on top of the mount is a beautiful Hotel with olive trees around it. If you were walking straight to the west you would go to the temple. If you go about 300 yds N.W. you would walk in to the Garden of Gethsemane. Just below that is the tiny Kedron Brook. I like setting the picture.
8:3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
8:4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
8:5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
Talk about humiliation and a death sentence as well . Not just any death sentence ,but a public one by rocks thrown at the body. It looks as though Jesus is in a jam here. The law which came from God condemns her. Friends ,that was all of us as well. The law condemned us ,and we were all caring a death sentence on our heads. Here is the law!!
Deuteronomy:22: 22:22 If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.
22:23 If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;
22:24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall STONE THEM with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.
They are diffently under the law here. What is being tried here is the love of Jesus. His belly of living water. His favor with all the common folk.
8:6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. They knew He would get out of this mess because of this, " That they might have to accuse Him." If He obeyed their wishes there would be no accusation. Friends".love will find a way when there seems to be no way. Some of you may be harboring bitterness . Love can find a way to heal that mess. Jesus is the way maker ,a light in the darkness. He stooped down to her level and with the creator"s hand began writing on the ground. No one knows what He wrote, but whatever it was it convicted the leaders to the heart ; the place of their feelings. The Word of God is sharper than any two edged sword.
8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. He did not let her off the hook tha test for He said, " He that is without sin among you. Let Him throw the first stone." I would believe that they were puzzled at Him not standing in the way of the women. Our Lord was going to let the conviction of their consciences do the work.
8:8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. One more time..He writes again. Wow! They must of had alot of sin harbored up.
8:9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. Each man from the eldest and maybe mature ,dropped their stones. It looks like the eldest might catch on quicker and set the example for the others. This is just a guess on my part. The only one left is the one who could of actually thrown a stone..The Lord Jesus. But remember..John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. Imagine her feelings. Alone with the Son of God. The One who is real love.
8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? Two questions from Jesus. We could also say that to our accusers. Romans 8:33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Hath no man condemned you . Oh my! The Jewish leaders are acting like the officers of yesterday"s study. "Never a man spake like this."
8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. Neither do I """"Praise God.Neither does the Son of God the rescuer of our soul. He gives her one command. It is not a suggestion. It is a command. GO AND SIN NO MORE. REPENT I s this possible. Yes and no. No"we all slip. But we don"t all have to conscientiously sin daily. When we sin it is a lack of faith.
1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Romans 14:23b "for whatsoever is not of faith is sin."
Galations 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit
There are many more.I will stop here. The key of sinning less is "walking in the Spirit." That is an individual thing. I have been in some churches that believed that since we are saved by grace ,we can act any old way for God will forgive us anyway. This attitude only proves that person did not get saved. They might have went through a ritual but the heart was not change. The command is go and sin no more. "They that are of Christ takes up his /her cross daily. They are dead to their fleshly carnal nature and exercise that through their actions daily. WE must practice this daily. Our thoughts are to please God in ALL that we do.
PS If you live like that".you are a very happy person. The old hymn says it good.." Trust and obey ,for theres no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.
Goose will continue our study through the completion of chapter 8.
8:8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. One more time..He writes again. Wow! They must of had alot of sin harbored up.
8:9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last:
God bless,
Chuck
Exactly right on Vs 8...!!!
Vs 9 just doesnt appear to happen today....that's been my experience. It's been "Fire for Effect" and "shoot to kill"..... can't speak for anyone else.
Leaf,
You are right. This is one of my favorite stories of Jesus getting someone out of a serious situation. He is a wonderful Savior.
Chuck
Concerning Reminton 1100,
I also agree. Since most Christians do not walk in the Spirit ,you will usually be dealt with in the flesh. They forget how easy it is to fall. When David sinned with Bathsheba God said "do you want me to deal with you or man." David said diffently you God. Man can be very cruel.
As Bro Mac said, so much truth hidden away in these passages. I can only think about how quick we are to judge and comdemn our brother while we claim to have the Spirit of Christ within. We may have scripture to condemn, but where is the mercy?? The compassion?? The forgiveness of Christ?? Another old Hymn comes to mind Bro Chuck, "To be like Jesus" Instead of sending one to hell, could we lead one to Calvary instead??
Something that has been a question in my mind about this story is this, Where was the man that was involved in this affair? To bring the woman and let the man go free was a breach of the law. Everyone here were law breakers except Jesus, right?? If we keep the whole law and offend in one point, we are guilty of all.
Rem: Don't lump all believers into one lump, there is some GOOD people out there who, although may not be perfect, are walking with God. If you don't find any in your area, become the first and lead others to Him.
If you don't find any in your area, become the first and lead others to Him.
That my friend is an excellent statement. It makes me recall an happening in 1976 while in the service. When ever I would get into trouble over my head I would look for a Christian. In October of 1976 I was getting into some heavy duty problem. I thought oh my there are no Christians in my platoon. I felt the Lord speak to my heart..Why don't you be that Christian. Shortly after, I did become a Christian. I brought a few others along as well. You are right. Be a solution to the problem.
Chuck that was an excellent thing to cover today, it covers so much in such a small space, it covers forgiveness, love, repentance and also judgement. I feel the eldest was more in touch with him self and was quicker to understand what Christ was saying is why he dropped his stone first, youth and inexperience tend to lead to quick judgement of others forgetting all about the log we have in our own eye!!!

You didn't respond as quickly as you normally do and I thought you were mad at me. I enjoy hearing from you . God has been enriching my life beyond words lately. I would like to talk about it but it may come across as boasting so I won't. All I can say is that the blessing of God is good and he brings no sorrow with it. I feel like a million dollars. His joy consumes me. His wisdom keeps my foot from slipping I never want to follow my flesh again. I am a very wealthy man. I honestly feel like a child of God. His mercy endures forever.
Have a wonderful day,
Chuck
Brother Chuck traust me, I was not mad, remember me saying my job was feast or famine, well this morning at 6 am sharp I had a feast of system issues to deal with!!!! God is incredible. I honestly haven't felt a revival like I'm going through in 5 years. I only hope this time it last forever. I never want anything less in my life again than the fulness of God . I praise HIm a 1000 times . I've never been this happy in years. The noise and worldly affairs around me are nearly silenced.
I don't think it gets any better.
Chuck
IPS Thanks for responding ..I know you and I are pretty tight.
