7:1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him. Why did they want to kill Him? Remember back in John 5 the man at the pool. He was healed on the Sabbath. He was different. He said He was the Son of God ,the Messiah and broke the Sabbath according to their interpretation.
7:2 Now the Jew's feast of tabernacles was at hand. This happened on September 15th to remember using tents/booths in the wilderness.
7:3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest. His brothers did not even believe in Jesus yet. They will later for James and Jude are His brothers. Far be it from the Lord to show off. Usually when He healed someone He would say, "śAnd tell no one."ť
7:4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. I just commented on this. He wasn"™t a show off or man pleaser.
7:5 For neither did his brethren believe in him. That is hard to believe. If Jesus couldn"™t win His family ,maybe we shouln"™t be so upset.
7:6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready. Jesus knew He had lots more good to do. He wasn"™t afraid of dying. His brothers time was always at hand though.
7:7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil. The world loves it"™s own Why did it hate Jesus. Why do people hate real Christians. Because we are not of this world and we represent Jesus. Jesus testifys that the world"™s works are evil. Therefore if you are a Christian you are agreeing with Jesus. Matthew said becareful when men begin to pat you on the back,"ťFor so they treated the false prophets."ť
7:8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come. The feast was the Passover. Jesus was expected to make this one ;although it was in Jerusalem.
7:9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee. He is saying all of this 90 miles away in Galilee.
7:10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. Jesus goes up later. He"™s not going to miss the Passover.
7:11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? They don"™t say where is Jesus ,but where is he? They hate Him.
7:12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people. Some talked good about Christ,,some didn"™t.It"™s a shame but the bad usually have the greater influence I"™ve noticed in life.
7:13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews. There was a mandate that if any confessed Christ that they would not be allowed in the Temple. This was very important to the Jew. Going to the temple was a large part of their salvation.
Question of the day. How do you and the world get along. Do you make them uncomfortable or do you fit right in.?
RE: John 7 The Lord's brothers don't believe either.
Chuck; Not trying to change anything, as you have done another great job here. But something to remember from the lessons of John 3:19-20 is that Jesus, being the light of the world, was revealing to the Jews just how far they really were from fulfilling their role as Gods chosen people. His light was exposing their dark and sinful hearts. If we let out light shine, we will also cause those who are in darkness to see their truely lost condition. As we fellowship with the lost, we preach to them by not partaking of their sinful ways. The sinner will either come to the light that they see, or turn away from it.
You also have given me an insight here concerning Jesus and miracles. You are right about him saying "tell no man" and not making a show about the great miracles that he did. So was the miracles really done to prove to the unbelieving masses that he was the Messiah?, or did he want them to believe on him as the scripture had said? Was he trying to prove anything? Or was it just his love and compassion at work to meet the needs that were present? Keep up the good work.
