John 6:48-58
6:48 I am that bread of life. Jesus is speaking with authority here. He is the nourishment that we need in our daily life. He is the only way to eternal life. No one else can possibly say that",I am the Bread of Life."
6:49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. Your forefathers ate the manna that God caused to fall on the earth. But this Bread, came from throne room of God. Heaven. Remember in Genesis 3:24 it talks about the Tree of Life being guarde by Cherubims to keep one from eating of it. This Bread came from God and we are all invited to freely eat of Him.
6:50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. If we eat of this Bread we will not die. We need to look and see how to eat this Bread.
6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. This He doesn"t say is restricted just for the Jews ,but""for the life of the world." This Bread is the "once and for ALL sacrifice" for the sins of the whole world.
6:52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? The Jews could not understand this. The law taught them not to even eat blood.
6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Do you see that. People who do not partake of the sacrifice of Christ,by believing have no life.I can say also before Christ came into my heart that I had no life. I was always thirsting for something but did not know what.Christ Jesus satisfies that thirst and hunger. And we have no idea of all the joys that await us.
6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. Jesus adds something to this. He now reminds us that if we accept His sacrifice we will be raised from the dead!
6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
6:57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. Christt told us that "I say only what I hear from my Father >' Also," I work because the Fater works." Well the same with us, If we indeed are "living by Christ, we should be reflecting Christ through our actions as it is written ,"even he shall live by me."
6:58This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
In my church experience I have seen some churches take communion serious and some not.
Most churches have communion quarterly. The main reason that I have heard is this. If you serve communion a lot it will lose it"s meaning.
I know that the Church of Christ, Episcopal, Lutheran and Catholics serve communion weekly. While in the Episcopal church I loved communion. It was a serene time of confessing your sin to God. I even felt a powerful forgiveness every time I partook. There are some churches that will deny you communion if you are not a member. I could never figure that one out. I thought tha twe were actually one big family as long as we were Christians. I personnaly believe those churches who do not have weekly communion are missing out. Because no matter how hard we try ,our good works won't get us into Heaven. It is only through the blood of Jesus. We should be reminded often. I actually see feeding on Christ in two ways. One by communion and remembering His sacrifice and 2 feeding on Him daily by walking in the Spirit. Depending upon Him in every aspect of our lives.
I would love to hear what you all have to say about what communion means to you.
Brother Chuck I know I felt very good after going up to recieve comunion on Sunday. In fact when I went back to sit down I was about ready to cry. But it felt very very good.
