Default A humbling hunting /fishing experience.

Friends,
on a lighter note I thought maybe we could share a humbling incident.

Last archery season while getting ready,I decided to climb on my roof to get the feel of shooting from a tree. I live in the city so I am very limited to shooting anywhere. My neighbor has a 6' privacy fence made of cypress.I put my home made 30" square target of compressed card board against the fence. The cardboard is about 12"thick.I had a deer picture on the front. I brought 3 arrows up on the roof with me just a little before dawn to make it realistic.

First shot. Right smack in the heart. I was very proud.Second shot ...still in the vitals.I'm thinking I'm diffently ready. My third arrow I think was bent. I puled back, lined the peep sight up and let her go. Let her go she did....The 60lb thrust put that baby straight the neighbor's fence, through a piece of his aluminum porch frame and smashing through his bathroom window.

The verse came immediately ..."go to thy neighbor and deliver thyself." I met him at his door with a 50.00 bill.He was still in his briefs. He looked a little funny but being another bow hunter he understood.I don't target practice off my roof anymore. I go to baseball fields when they are empty.

Lol Chuck, good thing he wasn't in the bathroom! I don't have any neighbors living out where I do so I don't have to worry about stray bullets or arrows. Last yr I decided I would go out in my back yard and practice shooting with a pistol in each hand. I set up my target and emptied two clips rapid fire. Like you, I did so well the first time I wanted to do it again. I let go with two more clips. When I was thru I heard a loud hissing noice. When I finally located the source I found a 9mm hole in my well water pump tank. [&:] Of course this confirmed the suspicions of my family that I am a threat to society in general and am in need of a firearm safety refresher course.

I got one but it wasn't funny to me. I felt bad for a few days then I felt better. Was up in the tree in my stand, and was grunting and rattling and boom i look back see this small 4 point buck come bustin out of the wooods about100 yards away. I was determined to shoot a mature buck but then I thought to myself, this would be my first bow harvest and i don't care if he is a trophy or not cause he is a trophy to me. So i grunted and he come in on a string. He got to about 10 yards, i drew back aimed, released my trigger on my release and "crack" smacked him dead on his foot. He hobbled away and I felt so bad but he made me feel better because I saw him 2 days later and he was fine. What happend was I didnt aim high enough and was too low and got him in the foot. Ever since then I've done nothing but practice that shot.

If the deer is in real close you want to aim a lil lower cause the point of impact will hit higher so if you hold your pin right on say he's 5 yards from tree your probally shooting right over his back, thats why you aim a lil lower. And the farther out they are the higher you may have to hold your pin over their back to make up for the drop.

tell ya the trruth he wasn't laughing and I was wondering if 50 was enough. I thought there might even be a fight.I was believeing God there wouldn't be. Once it was all over I felt like a dip-stick for being such a lousy shot.
