Good Morning Hunters,
John6:41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. They were expecting bread similar to that of manna. They wee disappointed
6:42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? Then they go from murmuring to mocking at his parentage descent.
6:43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. "No man can believe in Christ, unless God gives him power: he draws us first, by good desires. Not by compulsion, not by laying the will under any necessity; but by the strong and sweet, yet still resistible, motions of his heavenly grace." John Wesley
The Lord draws us to Himself by the gospel.Romans 1: 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;"
6:45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
"these are all, sooner or later, in a special manner, taught of God: and which does not intend mere external instructions, and objective teachings by the ministry of the word, for many are so taught, who never come to Christ; but special teachings, such as are attended with the energy of divine grace, and the power of the Spirit of God, who guides into all truth, savingly and spiritually: for this is to be understood of their being taught in the Gospel of Christ. That is why we came to Christ. In our hearts we were taught by God"s Spirit that He is the way ,The Truth and the Life.
6:46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. No we have not seen the Father, but He teaches us these things in our hearts.
6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
The key word here is believeth. We talked about this Greek word before for believeth.{ pist-yoo-o} means commit to trust. We must daily be trusting Him. Abiding in Him.
Greek word for abide is {meno} to endure,to dwell, to continue, to stand.
Jesus said in Matthew 10:22 "he that endureth to the end shall be saved."
We will see this again in John 15 as we look at the Vine and the branches.
Our work is to believe.
John6:28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
To be honest with you, when we study verses like everlasting life ,the commentators get extremely slanted. The Calvinist ;which believe in Eternal Security are going to twist alot of scriptures to fit there doctrine. On the other hand ,the Armenian writers are going to add this to some verses,"if you endure to the end." I am finding myself falling in the same trap. There fore ,tomorrow I will post information on all three and we can discuss them.
1. Calvinism...once saved always saved
2.Armenenianism...you can lose your salvation
3.Somewhere in the midle.LOL...hope I'm secure, but just in case I'd better do my best.
Goodmorning all, good post Chuck.
I believe I'll add a #4. . .Phi 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
