Default Doctrine of Baptisms

Eph 4:5 Says that there is one, (singular) baptism. I have always explained this as a two part baptism, water being one part, and the Spirit being the second part. Both parts being needed to complete one scriptural baptism.
Heb 6:2 speaks of the doctrine of baptisms, (pural, more than one). Is this speaking of two steps of one baptism? Or is it speaking of two completely different baptisms?

I kinda see it like you do Snooky, but because of my own personal experiance maybe , I see the water baptism as my part , and the the Spiritual infilling as God's part.

Bro.Snooky, I also see it as one baptism. You accept God at the invitational and
then you are requested to be Baptized in His name to fulfill that you have accepted Him.
Have you ever seen pepole get Baptized in the Alafia River in Gibsonton, FL.?

I think your answer is in verse 3

Ephesians4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4:4
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
4:5
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
4:6
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Possibly Paul knew these things could and do cause problems so he starts with verse 3 Endeavering to KEEP THE UNITY OF THE SPIRIT IN THE BOND OF PEACE. The only way we cankeep this unity is to proclaim with Paul there is ONE BODY,SPIRIT,BAPTISM, FAITH and HOPE. When we talk about 2 we divide. I believe if a man has faith keep it to yourself.
Romans 14:22
"Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God."
We need to endeaver to keep the bond of peace. ...and stay with one.

Reb; Gibsonton was a little to far south for my stomping grounds. I have lots of relatives there but I stayed about a hundred miles north. I'm sure in your hunting around Inglis and Yankeetown, you know about Crackertown. Part of Inglis now. I was baptized there at Kelly Runnels boat landing 40 years ago.

Leaf; I also see water as our part, (first part), and The Spirit as God's part, (second part) completeing one baptism, but was wondering why the term "baptisms", in the pural form was used in Hebrews.

Regardless of how sincere we are, our sincerity will never get us into heaven.Faith in in the blood of Jesus Christ will..one Lord, one faith and one baptism..and that is not baptism in the church baptistry, it is the Baptism of the Holy Ghost.. everyone of us that belong to the one body has been baptized by the one Spirit, the Holy Ghost, into the body of Jesus Christ the split second we believe.. 1 Corinthians 12:13..KJV.

"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit."

In Hebrews 6:2 the word baptisms has nothing to do with water or Spirit baptism..it is another form of the word that means washing under the mosaic covenant which had a definite place in Judaism..it did now wash away sin but only affected the outside to purify them so they could approach the Lord..

"Thou shalt also make a laver of brass, and his foot also of brass, to wash withal: and thou shalt put it between the tabernacle of the congregation and the altar, and thou shalt put water therein.
For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat:' Ex.30:18-19

"He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on" Leviticus 16:4

"And the clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day: and on the seventh day he shall purify himself, and wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even." numbers 19:19
