Good morning! Happy Memorial Day!
John 5:22-23 - We may want to read this one backwards to gain a clearer understanding. Remember, Jesus is still talking with the Jews. "That all men should honor the Son," God hath committed all judgment to Him. "He that honoreth not the Son, honoreth not the Father which hath sent Him." Honor in the Greek is tim-ah-o. It means to revere or value. This must have been very difficult for the Jews to swallow. With their eyes they are beholding a man who claims to be one with the Father. Although he has performed miracles, they still do not believe. You might think, well these folks are really zealous for the law. However, let"s not forget these Jews lost their nation to heathen countries because of their idolatry. As Jesus tells us later, if they really knew God they would have known Him too. The fact is they had just enough religion to make them miserable.
Verse 24 - "He that heareth (understands) my word, and believeth on Him that sent me hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation (krisis - means damnation/judgment), but has passed from death unto life." Folks, I have never seen that before. Is this verse saying if we understand and trust God that we will not be judged? That we have passed from death unto life? That is wonderful!
Verse 25 - And there will come a time that the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, "And they that hear shall live." Our work"to live in such a way that others may believe in Christ.
Verse 26 - Life is in the Father and in the Son.
Verse 27 - The Father, "hath given Christ the authority to execute judgment."
Verses 28-29 - "Marvel not, but all that are in the grave shall hear His voice and they shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. Do you want to live? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.
Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Verse 30 - So verse 30 again brings God and Christ together again as one. "I can of my own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just: because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father which has sent me." Friends, in our own lives that is what makes some of our relationships flaky. We really have hidden motives and are not totally seeking what"s good for the other guy. Jesus said, "My judgment is just because I seek not my own will." There is a lot of meat and encouragement here for those that are trusting Christ. For those of you who are reading, but not trusting, thanks for joining us as we learn together. I also want to thank our servicemen for the great sacrifices they are making and have made. In some countries this Bible study would be illegal.
God Bless Everyone of You,
And Happy Memorial Day,
Brother Chuck
So true brother Chuck, so much truth and encouragement!! And the great thing about it all is, (something that so many recent post are lacking), it relates to our salvation and walk with God.
Some excellent messages there Chuck--and one I'd like to point out that it seems so many overlook.
Quote:
Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
I believe this verse is 100% true, but I know it doesn't contain 100% of the truth. This verse is misused and taken out of context nearly as often as John 3:16. The truth in this verse that is so often overlooked or ignored is the required participation of mankind in the plan of salvation. I've discussed/debated/argued with folks that will say that there is absolutely nothing we can do to recieve God's gift, because it's just that--a gift. Some will argue that if you believe that you have to participate that you are trying to "earn" salvation--and we know that is impossible. However, what is confessing with the mouth if not a physical act? Romans 10:10 is very often used as "proof" that baptism is not a requirement for salvation, because baptism is a physical act that requires our active participation, but in that very same verse there is another physical act that requires our active participation, and that one is somehow different? I honestly don't understand how it could be taken that way.
Your thoughts?
Chad
