great post clint you clear everything up real well

However, my point is this: If tongues, prophecy, healings by men etc, are for today as some claim-----then you also have to accept snake handling and poison drinking as being applicable for today as well. You can't just claim the parts of the Bible you like and deny other parts. Especially when some of these things are mentioned in the same two verses. None of these things are applicable for today.
Thats what I said and I added so is it 1) your faith is not strong enough or 2) you can't do it according to God's word. and of course it is #2. I don't doubt the faith of anyone on the board.

LBR, telling people that they are somehow required to pick up venemous snakes to demonstrate their faith is extremely irresponsible and could lead to a terrible tragedy, or should I say additional tragedies since a number of people have already been killed doing this.
Doc, evidently you didn't read the rest of that post, or my next one. Here's what I said that you evidently overlooked.

Don't get me wrong--I don't want you to go grab up a handfull of rattlers, because if you do you will get bit.

I understand Leaf, and like I said--I don't want you getting bitten either.
Snooky, I used bold lettering to emphasize a point, nothing more. If you choose to believe one, and claim to believe the Bible in it's entirety, you have to believe the other. There is no distinction given between the signs and their purpose--it's all or none. For my part, I don't hate anyone (how can a man love God who he has not seen, and hate his brother who he has seen?). I do hate for anyone to be mislead, especially concerning the Bible. Questions are often asked not for answers, but to get someone to think about what they have chosen to believe and why.

Clint, excellent posts. Very well said.

Me too Rebel----absolutely.

The sad thing is, I've been in charismatic churches where the sign gifts are used as a "yardstick" of one's spirituality. If you don't claim to have one of "the gifts" , you are treated like a second class Christian. I believe every Christian has a gift/gifts. But the sign gifts are now gone. Such pride has no place in the Church. People have come up to me on several occasions and asked, "Since becoming a Christian, have you been baptized in the Holy Spirit yet?"

I mean, get real here! Every true Christian has been baptized in the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:9
"But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. "

I truly can't understand where anyone finds the teaching of the so-called "second blessing" in the Bible.

You are either a Christian or you aren't.

Blessings Reb,
Clint

LBR, I am sorry if I misunderstood your position on snake handling and am glad to see that you do not condone the very dangerous practice of picking up and handling venomous reptiles.

Thanks Doc--glad we cleared that up! Actually reptiles have facinated me since I was a child, and I have handled quite a few--some quite venomous--but it's always done in a safe manner, and never as part of a religious ceremony. I wanted to be a herpetologist when I grew up, but I don't reckon I'll ever grow up![8D]

I am the same way. I have a pet garter snake, gecko and box turtle that I adopted from Petco 2 years ago when they were returned by purchasers who decided they didn't want them after all. In the case of the turtle, at first they were not sure whether they would let me adopt him since he was sick and close to death but they let me have him when I told them I was a doctor, though not of Vetrinary Medicine, and I was able to restore him to good health with some adjustments in his diet. I enjoy handling snakes and other reptiles but would not take the risk of picking up a venomous one.
