Jesus Clears the Temple
2:12
After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.
2:13
And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2:14
And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
2:15
And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
2:16
And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
2:17
And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
2:18
Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
2:19
Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
2:20
Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
2:21
But he spake of the temple of his body.
2:22
When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
2:23
Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
2:24
But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,
2:25
And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.
LOTS of IMFORMATION HERE
I have been to these places. Capernaum is a few hundred yards from the Sea of Galilee. Capernaum is along hike to Jerusalem; around 70 miles easy. The foundation where Christ preached at Capernaum is still in there. Very dark rock like basalt. They were going to the most important holy day of all; The Passover. Verse 14 Jesus found them selling livestock in the temple. Josephus ;a historian at the time of Christ tells us "That oxen and dove were constantly being needed." "The Passover itself required over 200,000 lambs. Annually the jewish people were to pay ½ a shekel .This money went to the upkeep of the temple. Jesus fulfills Psalm 69:0 "For the zeal of Thine house hath eaten me up"
He drove the oxen and sheep and over turned the money. The doves were still in their cages. Only a divine commissioned person could interfere with the ordering of God"s house.
John 2:18
Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? Jesus said ,"Destroy this body and in three days I will raise it up. Just like our body.He will raise ours up as well. God also commands us to honor Him with our bodies.
I Corinthians3:16
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
3:17
If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. .
John 2:24
But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,
2:25
And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.
This is an excerpt from Matthew Henry concerning verse 24/25
Our Lord knew all men, their nature, dispositions, affections, designs, so as we do not know any man, not even ourselves. He knows his crafty enemies, and all their secret projects; his false friends, and their true characters. He knows who are truly his, knows their uprightness, and knows their weaknesses. We know what is done by men; Christ knows what is in them, he tries the heart.
Take care of those temples men.
2 Corinthians 6:16
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
6:17
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
2 Corinthians7:1
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
God Bless You All,
Chuck
Brother Chuck Jesus clearing out the Temple is a portion of Christ's story that says as you pointed out so much. I wonder how many televangelist Christ would take off the air because of them trying to sell salvation?

Taz,
I really don't know. I don't watch TV. I'm finding it hard enough to just glorify Him through my own temple. Many Christins including myself need to take heed to the verses about taking care of our temples. Because as the scripture says , we are actually God's temple.
2 Corinthians 7:1 says
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
We need to rid ourselves of the things that defile our heart and flesh.I have work to do because it says,"LET us cleanse ourselves."
Chuck
Taz,

Chuck
Chuck..you ain't alone,Bro.....BUT
I can't clean me.. onlyJesus can. I CAN'T do anything on my willpower, that will be lasting...the enemy was created STRONGER than me..BEFORE I was ....with the purpose of NEEDING someone STRONGER than myself to defeat... Cleanse ourselves? good luck, and let me know how that works out for ya..
Remington.
It's 2 fold I believe. To save alot of time I will quote the verse. 1 John 1:7 But if WE WALK in the LIGHT ,as He is in the LIGHT ,we have fellowship one with another and the BLOOD of JESUS CHRIST His Son CLEANSETH US FROM ALLLLLLLLLL SIN.
Amen
So it's walking in the light and His Blood working together.
Chuck
Paul said,"I die daily." AMEN you are correct. It's every day . However; after prayer this morning I felt the Pord prompting me to focus more on what He has done. For without Faith it's impossible to please HIm. Getting down on yourself is OK if the end result is Faith in God. The end result from prayer should be strenghth to face the day.Like Taz said yesterday.dancing with the Lord allowing HIm to lead and not us.
Paul,
You were on my mind all morning in prayer. I thought about alot of things. One main thought I had was in 2Corinthians 12 where Paul prayed that God would remove his thorn of the flesh.Paul sought God 3 times.God's answer,"My grace is sufficent for you , our strenghth is made perfect in weakness.
