Jesus Turns Water Into Wine.
May it be known I study from many different commentaries so that my view is not slanted. Some of the ones I use are from followers of Campbell and Alexander , John Wesley, Baptist and Spurgeon ,and good ole Matthew Henry. I try to keep an open mind and I do word studies as well. This topic has already been exhausted once just a few weeks ago. Many Christian brothers and sisters brought up the view that since alcohol causes so much harm, that surely the Lord must have made over 100 gallons of grape juice. Others have found the same Greek word pronounced oy-nos is used about 30 times.
Let"™s look at some"¦.Jn.2.3 And when they wanted wine{oy-nos} the mother of Jesus"¦
John 2:9 When the ruler of the feast tasted the water that was made wine{oy-nos}
Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine{oy-nos} wherein is excess.
2:1
And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2:2
And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
2:3
And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
2:6
And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
2:7
Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
2:8
And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
2:9
When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew

the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
2:10
And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
2:11
This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him
Here are some notes I took that may be of interest
Jesus and His 5/6 disciples were invited. Some think Joselph might have died since he wasn"™t present. They "śwanted wine"ť might be better rendered They needed wine.
Verse 4 Woman, what have I to do with thee. Some see this as just jewish language and not disrespect because He also uses this term Woman in John 19:26 when He said" Women behold thy son." thus telling John to take care of His mother.
19:26
When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
A jewish marriage usually last for 7 days and some say that is the reason for the excess of wine .
And they filled them up to the brim. So that no other ingredients could be added ,one writer writes.
One commentator brought out an interesting contrast. Moses turned water into blood ;and he brought the law.
Jesus turned water into wine and he brought the liberating gospels.
Whatever your convictions are , we should keep Romans 14 in the fore front of our hearts as Christians strive to walk in love.
14:19
Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
14:20
For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.
14:21
It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.
14:22
Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.
14:23
And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
In the service of our Lord,

Notice 14:22 Have it to thyself before God.KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT ABOUT CERTAIN CONVICTIONS.There will always be some who are offended. "Happy is the man who is not condemned in the thing which he alloweth."
