Default Question for Preachers?

Not to cause a stink, but a question of curiosity.

I have never been to a funeral service of some one who commitied suicide, I imagine this has to be the hardest of any service to do, how do you handle it?

Taz,
I conducted a funeral last year for a man who drank 1/5 of liquor and died.I fasted and prayed and let Jesus have His way.

Brother Chuck did he kill himself or mess up? There is a major difference betweeen an accidental suicide and sticking a gun to your head and hitting the trigger. Brother Chuck do not get me wrong, I know that service was far from easy to deal with.

Bro.Chuck, It was in your heart to do what you did, but I take the circumstances
as self induced suicide, if he drank himself to death. Now if he was in combat and
jumped on a gernade to save the lives of his comrades, it's an act of Heroism and
not suicide. This is my opinion!

I know Bro.Taz, I did't answer your question, it's a tuff call!
I have been going thru every book of the Bible to see if it
mentions anything or word of "Suicide"? Other than one of the
commendments "Thou Shalt Not Kill", I take it as including
oneself!

Someday when I get ordained and actually have to preach or help out at funerals, I hope that I never have to do it for a suicide. But, that being said, I think a suicide funeral and a non-believer funeral are pretty much the same when it comes to the "sadness" factor.

Almost all funerals I've been to in my life have been for God-fearing people. Most of them seemed more like a celebration or graduation ceremony than sad endings. Even the ones that happened in an untimely fashion.

When I preach a funeral, I do not take it upon myself to judge the person for eternity. I have preached funerals where I questioned the life I saw the person lead- but who am I to judge. A funeral is to comfort a greiving family- not to judge a soul!!!!!
I do wonder whether or not a suicidal person is mentally stable. Can a sane person kill themselves? and if not, are mentally ill people accountable for their sins? Questions for God and not us- our job is to comfort greiving families!!!!

Chris,
Your words were from a heart of a shepherd.Excellent. When I did a funeral last year I came up with the same answer after prayer with the Son.
