RE: And we wonder why the next generation is stupid?
I will be interested to hear a teachers opinion of this, I know there is a lot of pressure put on teachers and school administrators in regards to mandated test scores.
This has to be an almost an impossible task if half your class does not know how to speak english!
I have a feeling that caca like this would not be happening if they quit dummying down classes to the lowest common denminator and instead put kids that can not speak english into classes where they had one year to be taught english and only english, then throw them into the system and flunk them until they learn!

Actually, this is the result of "no child left behind" garbage. "Teaching to the test" is also very prevalent.
It's a catch 22 in many instances, if a teacher has a bunch of morons in class, they have to have a certain grade or their school could be in jeopardy, the solution is then to ensure they pass by teaching to the test or blatently giving them the answers.

It even goes farther back then that, folks.... Start at the very beginning. PRE-SCHOOL! My wife Margaret is the co-head teacher at her daycare center. She handles the screaming 2-4 yr old spawns of Satan . Doreen (other head teacher) has all the 5,6,etc... yr old school age PM kindergarten kids. The owners and other staff handle the rest of the late afternoon school kids.
My wife Margaret can tell you all about state rules, teaching, and early childhood development. There's tons of stuff you can't do, stuff you can do, and basically you have to leave it all up to the school officials to get a kid into kindergarten. Margaret knows of some 4 yr olds who don't know their ABC's yet! There are some 3 yr olds who are still in pull-ups (new type of diaper)!! [&:] There are kids at the daycare that know every cuss word known to man, but don't know how to properly talk in a complete sentence!
Trust me.... I've been to her daycare and I'm out the door in about 5 minutes. Ask youself this question: Do you think YOU could handle 21-22 or so 2-3 yr old screaming/crying/running amok type of little hooligans?!?!?! How my wife does it, I don't know...

Do like I do when I don't want to listen to the wife, its called selective hearing...I turn my hearing aids off !!!!

Nope, in Texas it goes back to a commision that H Ross Perot was in about dealing with education. the commision recommended the testing, which resulted in the TASS (apparently Texas Assesment of Stupid...er, Stuff). This evolved into the current TAKS test. Public schools have de-emphasised teaching, and now spend a dis-proprotionate amount of time teaching the test. The system doesn't help the poor students, and hurts the good students.
RE: And we wonder why the next generation is stupid?
It's not like our public education system was working that great before NCLB. If you have teachers teaching to the test now, you had teachers passing retarded kids before - right outta high school.
The end-of-grade tests they have here touch on all subject areas taught throughout the year. The EOG tests just determine what they have retained.

No Child Left Behind is federally mandated but paid for by the states? I really didn't know that.
It wasn't suppose to be, but it is. That is why Bush has shut up about it. Mandates certain things get done, but does not fund it. I like Bush, but I feel he is extremely delusional when it comes to Education. He proposed holding Teachers accountable for poor standard test scores in the form of pay cuts. Now what logic is that. If that would have ever passed the inner city, boarder towns, and the like would not have a single teacher. Its bad enough as it is now. Dallas schools go about 1600 teachers short a year (not the metroplex, Just the city of Dallas). Lubbock Texas went 800 short last year. No one wants to deal with the head aches of teaching. Why would they. Teachers get the blame for all of lifes ills. Kids dont study, its the teachers fault. Kids have discipline problems, its the teachers fault. Kid cant pass a test because of his/her actions and lack of parenting, its the teachers problem. Its a great industry.
I can see why these teachers did it, but don't feel it is right. There are certain kids that will never pass our exit level test, which means they will never get a diploma. I don't care what anyone says, some kids will not pass it. Who is going to get the blame? Not the parent who refused to make the child study or do right, Not the kid who refused to do the work, nor the educational system that mandates kids pass by all means necessary forcing kids in classes they can not handle (special ed is what im speaking of here). The actions of these teachers and principle should not be tolerated, and it will not be tolerated. About 3 years ago, a principle left a TAAS test out where a kid could get to it and copy it, needless to say, that principle has no job and lost all his credentials.
