The final reading and signing by the governor on S.B. 195 was pushed through without the public knowing all the facts. (of course)
It standardized the gun laws for all of Kansas. Before, cities and towns could make up their own. There were estimated to be 400 seperate laws. This is the last of the GOOD in this bill.
Way back on page 8(of 11) is a phrase that allows the sheriff of each county to serve warrants on any person who owes any kind of tax,any amount, and confiscate his firearms to be sold to a dealer for the dealers assessed price.
It does not mention that a judge has to issue the warrant.
It does not say how they know if you have firearms or not.
When I asked the Governor about this and why It singled out guns and not cars, furniture, books etc. I was told to ask my representatives.
To which I replied that as Governor of the State of Kansas she was my representative as well as the legislators to which I had already spoken and they could care less, fewer guns the better.I live near Manhattan and it's getting to be like Lawrance,------ San Francisco of the East.
Imo: everyone concerned with Kansas gun laws should look up this bill and read it , then contact their Reps and the Govenors office and let them know how you feel.
Next year some Reps. are going to try once again for concealed carry and we can't start too ealy in leting them know how we feel.

From your brief description it sounds like it won't pass Constitutional muster on several counts .
Ill agree, that sounds like it should get killed. Lets hope it does because what is proposed is ridicules and rather intrusive. No matter what they want to confiscate, Im afraid if the cops start breaking into houses with out warrants, they just might get a gun, and not the handle end.[:'(]

LOL,
If you do a little research, you'll find that is straight out of the Nazi Germany laws.
I'd rather them seize my guns than seize my car or my home, personally. At least if they leave the car, I can still remain gainfully employed. People who owe back taxes need to be working, not hunting.
I kinda like this law, it encourages work by targeting valuable luxury items.

Why the crying? Pay your taxes. Simple.

My only question, Why focus on guns? I don't think this has any thing to do with creating tax revenue from dead beats. Don't we already have Tax evasion laws and liquidations of all assets, not just guns? This stinks of ulterior motives[:@]

Quicksilver, As I said before why do they single out firearms to conviscate and how do they know who owns firearms.
As far as deadbet tax payers go,I know there are a lot of them, but two years ago I was told I owed $22 to the state. After several months of hassles I got a letter saying I did not owe the tax. They never would admit to making an error, they would just say I did not owe any tax.
My question to you is, What if they would have came and taken my guns and disposed of them, how would I recover my firearms, some of which has been in the family for almost 100 yrs.
All for a $22 mistake on their part.
This law SUX.
