I've always suspected there was still a small population out there.

I'm glad .......... but at the same time VERY scared. Those woods are tens of thousands of acres of prime whitetail and duck hunting. I can easily see losing all of that in the name of saving the Ivorybill, much like they did with the stupid spotted owl thing

They are a menace to the hardwood trees in Arkansas, I believe they should be killed.

The Ivorybill woodpecker last sighted in 1944 has been discovered living in remote Arkansas swamps.

Tell me fellas, if we had no clue that a thought-to-be-extinct bird has been among us for 60 years before realizing it, how in tarnation can we determine that millions of song birds are being eaten by feral cats?

You don't even know the geographical location of Arkansas, much less what does damage to what. Pileated Woodpeckers are here by the thousands ........ and they don't cause tree damages. With the Red Oak Borer, they're actually beneficial in controlling the numbers of larvae to a degree I believe.

A remnant population of woodpecker in the deep swamps of SE Arkansas, maybe only numbering a few dozen birds at MOST can be easily seen. I mean, if you've ever watched Deliverance you know not to go in those swamps.

By your reasoning, we should shut down deer hunting season. I mean, how can we really know that theres plenty of deer to hunt ?
