Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Fed Fee's to access your land. NOT HERE

"ĒMontana smells a RAT

Montana has told the federal government to mind their own business when it comes to collecting fees from public land users.

What started out as a fee demonstration program became the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act, requiring citizens to pay a fee to use public lands.

The Montana House recently passed resolution 13, demanding the repeal of the Act they have renamed the Recreation Access Tax (RAT). The measure passed 49-1.

Hal Harper, chief policy adviser to Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer, stated, "œIf you want to incite a revolution in this state, start charging hunters and anglers and campers a fee to access their own public lands." Western governors have vowed to work together to get rid of the RAT.

Many other states have federal lands(mine included) that have been charging a small access fee for years . There's a stretch of the Hoosier Natl. Forest where I hunt , administered by the Dept. of Agriculture , that charges a whopping $4.00 per day . I usually pay on my way out since the gate attendant doesn't get there until several hours after I arrive . The season pass for camping is a mind boggling $25.00 , nearly enough to stay at a KOA !

The explanation I got was that these token fees help with maintainence and other administration costs that aren't already addressed by the budget .
