Honor classes have no place in school
If it is not tied to graduation, why pay for the books and teachers. Let the honor students pay a Jr. College or other learning centers for their higher education. Why should My tax dollars pay for higher education not mandated by the state?

NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND seems to be aimed at getting every high school student in college. I really question the good it does for some students that are not going to college. They would be better off learning a trade.

As a teacher working in a Career/Tecnhical school (read- vocational school), I have to say right on to you NT. We used to teach carpenters the type of math they'd use in carpentry -- measurement, angles for rafters, etc. Now, they learn (or try to) the math that is on the test (Ohio Graduation Test). Useless to them, and lets face it, way above most of their heads. The kids that go to my shcool, and others like it, go because they are academically weak, low IQ, etc., and can't keep up in traditional academics -- "learn a trade" as it has been called for so many years. Now, that's pretty much over. Next year, we will be taking 40 minutes per day away from their lab time (hands on, or lab time) to accomodate the changing academic standards.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for high standards. I just think carpenters, mechanics, electricians, etc. should have their own standards.

Yes, that's exactly what I am getting at. The gov't has implemented all these "universal" tests and standards, but this isn't a one-size-fits-all kinda deal. Teachers like yourself are forced to teach subjects that many will never have a practical use for. We waste our tax dollars and their time to gain nothing.

One of the problems is that this country is full of idiots, the approach taken with "leave no child behind" is an ill conceived "plan" to increase test scores and grad rates.
If the kid doesn't want to learn, no amount of goob intervention is going to do a damn thing short of beating the snot out of the little turd.
let 'em drop out, they can take the jobs the illegals have.
