Recently, I was at my local elementary school, and they have buckets for donations to the Humane Society. I was infuriated by this, and suddenly have a burning desire to spread the word to discontinue support of this organization. I was wondering if any of you have any experience in this regard, or perhaps some ideas. I was thinking of posting a small add in the local paper, or tacking up flyers on local bulletin boards...I don't know, I just want to do something! Any ideas or thoughts??
PS. Moderators, if this belongs in politics, my deepest apologies and please move if necessary.

I tend to agree with you on this, children are highly susceptible to having their sensibilities manipulated by organizations such as this and there is really no place for it on a school campus. Humane societies in general may be legitimate, but the overall trend is for them to be associated with other organizations such as HSUS which have an agenda skewed toward the weird much like PETA. I would personally like to see their tax exempt status examined by the IRS and possibly pulled unless they get back to the basics.
they take in strays, if they can't get adopted or aren't adopted they euthennize them.
They're not very political, at least not around here. I'm not sure what the hula baloo is about......... it ain't like we're talking peta or something.
The thing is, not all Humane Societies are the same. Some are the militant, Peta type. Others are the type of organization any sportsman probably run, if he felt it was your calling to handle animal population problems. Accept strays, find a home if you can, but humanely put them down when you need to.
I assuming you are speaking of the group which fights hunting, I'm not sure the correct name -- is it the American Humane Society? Remember, one group with a name like this is your standard take in stray pets and find them a new home organization and one is a staunchly anti-hunting group. Assuming the group you refer to is the anti-hunting varient, what about going to the school and asking to place a donation box for some trophy hunting club in the school. When you are refused, demand that the Humane Society donation box and any other school support for this group be rescinded on basis of equal treatment.

The humane society in my area is not a PETA type at all, some of them actually will farm out certain dog breeds even though there are no papers to different breed type rescue leagues that keep them up for adoption forever, if they aren't adopted they simply keep them.

Yes, and that is the sad thing. Unfortunatley, the "devil" disguises himself in many ways. Most bad things in this world, that I know of, always try to disguise themself in a cloak of good. I am glad your local society doesn't help fund anti hunting groups, but I believe most of them do, they just do it underhandedly. IMO.
