Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default More incarcerated as crime drops

I read an article yesterday about this where the author's point was that the US imprisons too many people.

Did it occur to the author that maybe the level of crime is dropping BECAUSE we are imprisoning more criminals?

DUH!!!!!!!!!

I read some where that 90% of crime is committed by repeat offendors, so the more of them in prison the less crime there will be, I wish more people would be willing to pay slightly higher taxes for more prisons to where early release for these dirt bags would not be needed.

...and those sex offenders have a 90% recidivism rate. They shouldn't allow any back in society without first serving a LONG sentence, being castrated, ankle bracelet on, and the entire county notified about them. It is unconscionable to me how little girls and boys are killed by such scum that our system allows back out in society KNOWING they will do it again.

Federal

Men Women

Violent crime 18% 8%

Property 10 17

Drugs 57 66

Public order 13 9

State Prison
Violent crime 47% 32%

Property 25 % 29%

Drugs 21% 33%

Public order 7% 6%

Ok, The problem is were putting a huge percentage of people in Federal prison for non-violent drug offenses.

What do they get in prison? Better drugs then they had on the streets meet new contacts from all across the country and their drug dependencey issue aren't adressed. They do however get to work for corporatoins at a very low wage.

Charlie there is a tremendous amount of violence tied to the distribution of drugs, the more big time dealers that are spending time in the slammer the fewer turf fights there will be. I am not saying it is a cure to the drug problem, but fewer distributors on the street doe's cut down on the amount of violence due to competition.

You really think that it's the big time dealers going to jail?

How long does the lack of distributers last ,ten minutes?

Until the huge profits are removed from drugs someone will gladly fill the space left open.

I consider the people bringing it in the big time dealers btw, how far you think their connections go up the ladder?

If you want to cut down on illegal drug operations, then make drugs legal. Prohibition failed miserably with alcohol, and once the 18th Amendment was repealed, bootleg liquor sales plummeted. Your casual user does not want to buy from some thug in the shadows--regulate sales just as you would tobacco or alcohol and bring operations into the open where we can monitor them.
