ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. "” A 5-year-old girl was arrested, cuffed and put in back of a police cruiser after an outburst at school where she threw books and boxes, kicked a teacher in the shins, smashed a candy dish, hit an assistant principal in the stomach and drew on the walls.
But I think the police arrested the wrong person.
Quote:
The girl's mother, Inda Akins, said she is consulting an attorney.
"She's never going back to that school," Akins said. "They set my baby up."
The kid just tore up a classroom and assaulted the teachers, and she's consulting a lawyer and talking about a setup? The parents didn't do their duty as parents! The police should have arrested the mother for "Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor".
If there is a case where parents should be charged, this is it! That girl may grow up thinking that she can do anything she wants just because the parent wanted to be her best friend instead of a parent.

When I first saw the tape pn TV, I thought, "why isn't that teacher doing something?" Then I remembered, teachers' hands are tied. They can't do anything fpr fear of lawsuit. Smart teacher... now it's the cops getting sued.

BTW, IMHO that kid needed a paddling.
I agree, a good paddling would have gone a long way to get this kids attention. As for the handcuffs, while on the surface may seem a bit extreme, they may very well have kept this kid from hurting herself. These situations seem to have become more commonplace lately, this is at least the second time in recent weeks where a young juvenile has been cuffed to the outrage of the shrinks. Maybe a straight jacket would be more in order considering the actions seen on the video footage.
One of the biggest detriments to the process of learning today is the lack of discilpine.
When a teacher has to spend valuable teaching time disciplining a kid, the rest of the class pays the price.
Discipline starts at home. The paddle that some mentioned should be appropriately applied: first, to that mother's arse! And then to the 5 year old's arse!
One of the biggest detriments to the process of learning today is the lack of discilpine.
I'd take it a step further than that . . . I would say that lack of discipline is the single biggest detriment to the process of learning. Discipline in the schools is non-existant. In our universities today, the teachers of tomorrow are being taught that punishment should not exist in schools; that the only form of "discipline" used in the classroom should be "constructive discipline," where the teacher pulls the kid to the side and talks to him "positively" about what he did wrong and what he can do to change his behavior. I'm speaking from experience because I was an education major in Tennessee's second highest-rated college of education until my senior year. Basically, teachers are being instructed that all of the traditional forms of discipline in the classroom should not be used. When their constructive discipline doesn't work, which would probably be 90 percent of the time, the only method they have left is to send the kid to the school principal. The principal, of course, will face the same thing as the teacher. Too many times, teachers will allow a kid to goof off during class as long as he doesn't cause total chaos simply because they don't know what to do, and don't have any options. Not only does this destroy the kid's chances of learning, it also hinders all the kids sitting around him.
We have the NEA, scumbag lawyers and poor excuses for parents to thank for this decline in discipline. And of course the problem with no discipline in school is greatly compounded by the fact that parents aren't discipling their kids at home. If my five-year-old was so out of control that law enforcement officers had to be called to the school - or the school's resource officer had to step in, whichever the case might have been - I would be 1.) completely embarrassed; 2.) doing some serious personal evaluation of my disclipline methods at home; and 3.) spanking some kid's behind. Instead, this parent says that her "baby" is being set up. That simple statement sums up the problem with unruly kids in schools all across this nation. The mindset of parents sure has changed in 20 or so years.
