Default Good news for the slightly overweight!!!!

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20050420/D89J46M80.html

The CDC has found that people moderatly overweight are less prone to death then those of proper weight! This does not apply to obese folks, but does make me feel better about the extra pounds around my mid-section!

Especially if they were in a boat that capsized and tossed them into 50 degree water.[8D]

It's hard to get injured while sitting on a comfy couch chowing down moon pies.

"researchers" have also recently "discovered" that moderate drinking of alcohol has no benefits to your health.

Next they'll discover that eating balogna with mayonnaise causes a 3rd eye to sprout from your head, only to discover that it can be counteracted by drinking Gatorade laced with Vodka ....

Maybe because if you look at the tables of what you should weigh for your height you'de have to be a marathon runner.

I heard a blurb on the news last night about this. I think it's peculiar timing with the talk about the food pyramid thing due out. Not sure what it means, but I can guess that it's full of fallacy.

I totally concur Charlie, the weight charts that have been around for an eternity, even the ones that account for frame size are an absolute joke!!!! When I was lifting weights I was according to those charts 50+ pounds over weight even though I only had 5% bady fat at the time!

I have seen studies done in the past that came up with basically the same conclusions as the CDC, which was that a person who was moderately overwieght was in reality healthier then a person who was at what the charts said was thier ideal weight, the reasoning behind these finding was that some one moderately overwieght had far more reserves to survive a long term illness then some one of thier ideal weight.

BTW Data you can not have it both ways, you cite studies by the government to prove a point then turn around and say the same studies you used in your favor are BS!!!! Which way is it Data?

My idea of 'ideal weight' is one consisting of enough body fat to survive a winter famine. These skin-and-bone health nut types just look sickly to me. Fat is key to out lives, but the mere word itself has been so stigmatized over the years that people seemingly run away in terror. Looks like CDC is starting to figure out that fashion is one thing, while health is another.
