Default Let's kill the Mustangs too while we are at it

Urban sprawl has cramped the wild mustang's range, we should probably lobby for an open season on wild mustangs too. If someone's horse get's loose and has no bridle, shoot it. Sound bout' right, Data?

are they destroying native species ? If so then yeah, have a season. Are they overpopulated with no regulations on controlling them ? Hunt them if they don't.

but none of the above is true, unlike feral cats

badshot mustangs have been a known detriment for years and have been killed for dog food and rounded up and domesticated for years, there reproductive rate is very low in comparison to feral cats, dogs and hogs. The federal government has kept the mustang population in check for decades easily.

Finally, in 1971 Congress passed the Wild Free-Roaming Horse and Burro Act which proclaimed that mustangs are "living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West and shall be protected from harassment or death." This law meant that wild horses were now protected from human hunters, eliminating their greatest predator. Other than an occasional mountain lion attack, there are no natural predators.
damn - aint that what I said ?

With the co-killing of the wild mustang's natural predators, the mountain lion and the wolf, a whole new dilema faced the survival of the wild horse. If not controlled, the mustang herds would grow so big they would overwhelm their range, leaving horses vulnerable to starvation, thirst and disease; crowding out other wildlife; using up much needed resources by rancher's herds; and causing even more problems as housing developments continue to spread into horse country.

When populations of wild horses, wild burros, or domestic livestock exceed the capabilities of their habitat, the environment begins to decline, and there is no longer a thriving natural ecological balance. Enter the government's solution ... the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

The BLM conducts the removal of wild horses and burros from public lands. Their removal is based on years of monitoring the habitat and observations of the herd. The BLM is responsible for keeping the wild herds at acceptable numbers. Whether or not this actually occurs is a matter of intense debate.
replace "horeses" with "feral cats" and the exact same above would apply

wouldn't it ?

Ditto what taz said

And like Datamax said, if they are spreading desiese, killing other species to the point of extinction, not under check by nature, they yea shot em. Isnt that what we do as hunters. We are a big part of the checks and balances toward game species.

The Wild Horse and Burro Act was something that should never have occurred. A few animal rights activists worked hard got peoples emotions stirred up enough politicians decided it was popular to intervene. Emotions clouded peoples judgment, and now public range resources are being depleted because the BLM and Forest Service are having to fight with both hands tied behind their backs. What makes things worse is that the areas in question are primarily arid grasslands, which can take hundreds, even thousands of years to recover. That is, if erosion hasn't depleted the soil to the extent recovery is impossible.
