Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Another irresponsible gun owner gives the anti"™s more ammo.

Quote:
(CNN) -- A 9-year-old Arcola, North Carolina, boy shot and killed his mother before taking his own life, according to the Warren County Sheriff's Department.
.....
"A family gun" was used in the shootings, Williams said, but it's unknown where and how the weapons was stored.
See CNN for the entire article.

When is this sort of thing going to stop? Irresponsible parents need to be held accountable, and in this case, it looks like she was.

Gun owners, lock you guns up. Lock the ammunition separated from the gun. Parents, be involved with your children. Know what they know.

As these types of incidents occur, the anti"™s will gain strength.

Heart breaking story and as you said not good for responsible gun owners who know to seperate guns and ammo and lock them up.

My guns are lockes, and always will be. My cousin had dozens of guns locked up in safes. He was the only on who know the combinations. Not his wife or two boys had a clue. He wouldn't even let you be down stairs when he opend a safe, cause of the possibility someone might look over his shoulder. Sounds too safe, but I don't think you can be too safe.

Whoah, that's a pretty young age for a family murder-suicide. It seems pretty clear that the boy's mother blew her responsibility for controlling household firearm access, but I have to wonder what led to this in the first place. What a bizarre case.

From the article......
'it's unknown where and how the weapons was stored.'

Maybe the gun was locked up... A nine year old that commits a murder/suicide might just be the kind of kid who figures out how to access an otherwise 'inaccessible' weapon.

Maybe the gun was kept accessible because there was someone the mother was afraid of. If the nine year old had shot an intruder, hardly anybody here would be blaming the mother for negligence.

He had some issues. He could have killed his mom with all sorts of things. It wasn't the gun that killed those two. It was him.

The emotional status of the child and how he got to that state is the most important aspect of this case.

Kids who are abused or otherwise traumatized enough will find a way to lash out - with tragic consequences as evident by this case.

It is more a child abuse/neglect case than a gun control case - though the anti's will likely focus on the gun instead of the emotional/mental health of the poor disturbed child.
Exactly. It would be one thing if this kid found access to a gun and accidentally killed someone. Tragic and unnecessary, but understandable to some degree. But to murder your mother and then yourself...that takes some serious will. Who knows what he would've done if he had gotten the gun.
