Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Slavery was a curse, what we fought for was state"™s rights...

Read than listen to the audio, kind of freaky to listen to a guy who fought in the Civil war.

That was indeed freaky. I wish I could hear the rest of it though.

The civil war wasnt about slavery. The north didnt want the south to leave because then they would be losing all the money from the crops, and the south just wanted to be their own country. Or something like that. Slavery was just a side thing.

This was extremely interesting. It makes you wonder about all of the revisionist history going on. Good post scanr1.

The War Between the States (aka War of Northern Aggression) was about states rights, but what right were they at odds against? The right to own slaves. It is somewhat ironic that the causative issue for the formation of the Republican party by Abe Lincoln was to end slavery in the US.

It is also important to note that the Union did not fight solely for the altruistic reason of freeing the slaves. The othet less mentioned but more widely held justification was too keep the freed slaves in the south and thereby avoid competetion for jobs in the industrial North.
