http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...s_050406201103 This could prove interesting, looks like if you feel threatened by a dirt bag in the mall you can just whip out your gun and waste him, no more having to try and avoid conflict. I am not sure how I feel about this one....... I was just thinking that you could simply waste some one and claim he/she was threatening you so you killed them, by the same token it is a good thing because many times you know the person is out to hurt you, you won't have to wait until they actually do something.

In a conflict situation that results in gunfire most juries probably wouldn't convict the victim for killing his assailant , especially if the perp has a record of violence or is larger and/or armed . I'll agree that the potential for abuse exists , but it always has .

When it comes to the use of deadly force, people had better be dern sure about it before putting it in motion. Most cases where deadly force is used, the person using it is indicted for something.
But I don't see any more abuse from this change than before though. What would prohibit someone from shooting another person and claiming that they tried to back down but couldn't?
There are numerous rules for the use of deadly force (at least in NC). Anyone carrying better know what they are.
I carry and I'm thinking about it all of the time.
... the law will encourage Floridians to open fire first and ask questions later, fostering a sort of statewide Wild West shootout mentality.
Population control? Hmmm.
I'm not at all surprised here though. If you take a look at FL gun/crime history, there's a couple cases (probably more) that involve making gun laws more lenient resulting in lowered crime rate. For example, not sure when exactly this happened, but Florida promoted women carrying guns. They trained them and allowed them to carry. The result? Huge decrease in rape. So I say, let em' blast away. I think for the most part that law abiding gun-totin' citizens can discern between a threat and a non-threat.

If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a civilization, it expects what never was and what never will be.
Lets face it, in this day and age of politically correct socialism, a law like this even being entertained tells me that things down there are getting really bad.
Seeing as how the law focuses on Miami -- a HUGE bastion of Illegals, my gut feeling is that illegal gangs are a really big problem.
I think it's great. If someone has the gall to threaten me with deadly force, I sure as heck don't want to face charges to putting the scumbag in his place. If I had to run from him, who's to say he won't shoot me in the back as I go? Or worse yet, shoot my wife as she runs.
The bottom line is that criminals need to fear us--that's the way to stop violent crime. It only takes one hoodlum to bite off more than he can chew before the rest of them start rethinking their line of work.
Like the bumper sticker says, "Criminals Prefer Unarmed Victims".
