No, not the "bad moon rising" kind. This was from a history channel special on Nazi "werewolves," very comparable to the terrorists in Iraq. I won't tell all about it, but they operated much like what we've seen recently in Iraq and Afghanistan. Fighting in civilian clothing, using bombings & booby traps, killing and intimidating their own people, even poisoned booze. It just goes to show that what has happened in Iraq & Afghanistan is not new or unique. Tyrants on the verge of losing or after losing have used such terrorist squads, so the hand-wringing and cries about how unique the terrorist resistance in Iraq does not square with historical fact.
True, but we must keep pretending to be outraged by this imagined threat and continuously on high alert to feed our zeal for the new "Super-Patriotism" - else we might flater into rediculous discussions about our open border, ballooning deficit, corprate welfare, inflation, and spiraling gas prices,,,,, things that only communists and terrorists would talk about you see???
Tardfarmer, I like that line - great line from a song I really like!
Open borders and our dependence on foreign oil is a huge problem, it seems we're talking about these issues as well as the others you mention. The object of this post I thought was clear - to debunk the myth that the "resistance" in Iraq by terrorists after being defeated is a new thing.
Sorry, I only pee in Wheaties where it's needed! [8D]
Open borders and illegal immigration are huge problems, I certainly break from the Bush administration on this one. A Kerry administration would have been worse, I shudder to think how. If we crack down hard on illegal immigration & secure our borders, which is something I feel must be done BEFORE terrorists get across to hit us, the Mexican economy will be trashed. Money that illegals send home from the US comprises the largest percentage of the Mexican economy & stopping that flow of money will cause a huge crisis in Mexico. I think the Mexican government has been criminally lazy in not doing things to improve the situation there, & there's no better time than now to secure our borders.
Dependence on foreign oil - just common sense. We have these OPEC countries which do not particularly like the US who can fix the price for oil. We have oil here that we can get to safely. The focus in on the middle east, but Venezuela is a country we import huge amounts of oil from. They are led by a communist who is a confidant of Castro & happy to gouge us.
Right now, much of the oil industry in Texas lacks the infrastructure it needs. In the 90's, the oil industry pretty much died in my part of the world. In the early 80's, it was common to see fifteen to twenty rigs drilling at one time at night. You could drive up on a hill, and see one in nearly every direction. In the late 90's, it got to where seeing an oil rig was rare. Now, a few more rigs are being built and a few more wells are being drilled. But the production companies are also having to work to replenish their infrastructure. And since OPEC is notorious for flooding the market when things start kicking off, a bunch of people are leary about overextending themselves trying to expand. They have been burned one too many times.
