Waukesha - Waukesha County District Attorney Paul Bucher said Monday that he
supports a law that would allow residents to carry concealed weapons but
refused to say whether mass shootings such as the one at a Brookfield hotel
last month should propel support for legislation.
A New York Times story Sunday said recent killings such as the Terry Ratzmann
shootings were spurring efforts nationally to ease gun laws and prominently
quoted Bucher, who is running for attorney general, as saying, "We need to
put more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens."
Bucher went on to say: "Whether having that would have changed what happened
is all speculation, but it would level the playing field. If the person you're
fighting has a gun and all you have is your fists, you lose."
