Today I was driving to school and noticed they already jacked up Regualr Fuel to $2.40/g which is horribly bad. I can't imagine how truck sales are going for companies like GM and Ford, they must be loosing alot of money for this. What are current Gas prices for some of you others out there?

RE: Gas Prices are Outrageous
Butch,
Even though the sign on the station may say Amoco, the stations are still privately owned. The owners pay for the franchise designation, just like Burger King and McDonalds.
But anyway, back to your question. Gas prices are "fixed" by a station by immediate competition. If there are 3 stations within 1/2 mile of one another (which is often the case) those 3 will determine the gas prices for that stretch. Between those 6 miles there may be no gas stations, so hence, no immediate competition.
I can remember when I graduated HS in 1990, I worked at a Full-serve station. That summer was the first time gas prices climbed, in "natural progression", to over $1/gallon. Now in just 15 years, it appears they have doubled.
In comparison, the postal stamp has averaged a $0.01/year increase since 1975.
Far as I'm concerned, as much as I do not like more regulations, energy resources are one item the Federal government should have complete power of control. Petroleum products enhance our lives everyday, as from one barrel of crude, the average refinery can make 9 different organic products. And we, the consumer, get screwed on every single item...[>:]
And I just bought an AWD 5.0L Explorer because of the price...good thing the wife will only be driving 100 miles a week in a month or so [:@]

Sorry, forgot to answer your question in my rant
Gas is about $2.11 to 2.17 here in CT, depending on the station.
As for the big 3 and truck sales---they won't take a hurting until home construction significantly declines---the contractors need those vehicles to haul all of their supplies.
I'm personally more worried about the unforeseen after-effects. Town budgets are greatly affected, especially public Works, police, fire, schools. Freight charges---truck & air, and not to mention foreign competition---like China. And those are the tip of the iceberg...
Should be a very interesting summer, indeed. GW may have the first revolt of the new millenium if he isn't very careful...
