Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

I think we should stay there until the job is done. Of course we can measure the human toll of the war, but can we really put a price on a more stable, democratic Middle East? Think of how many lives might be saved down the road.

Brings up an interesting point.

If Iraq was SOOOOOOO dangerous, wouldn't the death toll to the US be something like 50,000? 100,000?

Obviously they're not that dangerous given the relatively low casualty rates, unlike those in WWII, Korea or Vietnam.

Historically speaking, 2000 men is an unbelievably low number. We heard reports that we'd lose that on the first day of the invasion. Now two years later, we've lost 2000. People need to put this in perspective! What our military has acheived in such a short period of time with so few loses is incredible. The Union lost 2000 men in the first ten minutes at Fredericksburg! Perspective!

Our incapability to stomach losing 2000 men is why those jokers have seen us as weak. As a country, we need to "buck up!"

We may not know the answer to this for another 15 years! But it's looking positive in my opinion.

And how many of those 2,000 are combat-related? A good number of those men and women had accidents or medical conditions that were as likely to happen over here training or slopping down cheeseburgers as over there.

It is sad that we as a nation cannot stomach casualities. If we were like that back during WWII, we'd probably be speaking German or ***anese right now.

Regardless as to how we ended up there, if we cut and run early we'll all regret it. Aught Six is correct. We need to stay until the job is done.

Absolutely. I supported the decision to take Iraq out, and I still do. I had an old friend of mine there who was a tank battalion commander with 3rd ID (4-64 Armor), and a brother-in-law who was a Seabee over there (he helped rebuild over 200 schools).

2,000 deaths and we're questioning the cost of the war? My goodness, how weak-kneed we have become as a nation. We have absolutely no resolve. What little we could muster after 9/11 has quickly dissolved.

Doug is right. If we were this weak-stomached in WWII, I'd be thanking God right now that I have blonde hair and blue eyes. Well, that is if I knew who God was. They might have chosen not to tell me.
