As many of you fine people, I have been wrestling with the issues in the news on the idea of life, quality of life, and hard decisions that are made...right or wrong. After seeing this whole Terry Shiavo case, the turmoil, and the division I have found some troubling issues on both sides of the equation...right and left.
The Right:
Opposed most if not all forms of abortion as murder and the woman has no choice.
In the Shiavo case, the choice is in dispute in their eyes and any "pulling of the plug" is an abomination in the eyes of the Lord.
Most in the religious right support the war on terror and the war in Iraq.
They want the life, but will not allow stem cell research to improve one day the quality of that saved life.
They believe all life is sacred.
The Left:
They support the euthansia platform as choice of the individual, in terms of quality for the afflicted.
They support a woman's right to choose abortion.
They oppose war in most all forms as it kill people and collateral civilians.
They support the research of stem cells to improve the quality of lives chosen to live.
They support "saving the world" view in terms of environmental issues.
They believe all life is sacred.
However, thers is one environmental issue, and a life issue that effects more people every year, than died in 9/11 and the Iraq war combined. That is Asbestos related diseases. It is not new, glamorous or even a sexy political hot button issue. However, over 10,000 people die every year, very horribly I might add, with the effects. These men and women all over the United States are not starved, but are denied the ability to breath. Most who have this affliction pray for death, and medical bill usually total $500,000 from onset to death over a 10 year period.
Why do I bring this up? For both sides left and right, in their zeal to be a "one issue horse" in a multi issue horserace miss the point. The point is priority. Which issue has the biggest pile of dead bodies must take precedence! Yet there was no grandstanding for the 10,000 a year, however my parties congressional leadership got very worked up about one woman! And for got the 10,000 per year!
So much for the Right's claim to "Culture of Life"!! I guess that all life is not sacred, unless it suits your political beliefs!
And the Left is not much better, opposing a war on grounds of great casualties and "saving human life, and self-proculimation of "defenders of the environment", missing the same pile of dead bodies from asbestos related diseases. And the left did nothing either, as some strange obscure animal, plant, or insect takes precedence over 10,000 men and women a year! They did nothing as well.
So much for the Left's claim to "Culture of Life"!! I guess that all life is not sacred, unless it suits your political beliefs!
National Asbestos Awreness Day is April 1, 2005, and NO it is not a joke or April Fool's day thing, look it up on a google search.

To the right, there is a question as to if she is really gone. I don't know anyone who objects to pulling the plug if the person is truely gone.

You thought 2000 American dead on 9/11 was a good thing? Iraq had WMDs, used WMDs, hid WMDs in Syria. I just hope we don't have 10,000 dead because we messed around with the UN for 18 months rather than go right in and capture Iraq's WMDs.

I know of no one who is against ADULT stem cell research.

The Left:
They support the euthansia platform as choice of the individual, in terms of quality for the afflicted.
What do they deem as quality of life? The downs baby, the old, the mentally or physically handicap, the unfit? Isn't that what hitler called the Jews, the unfit.
They support a woman's right to choose abortion.
Don't execute the criminal, but kill the most helpless.
They oppose war in most all forms as it kill people and collateral civilians.
I would like to see a house put up a sign out front "Gun Free Zone." Then see how many times it gets robbed.
They support the research of stem cells to improve the quality of lives chosen to live.
Fetal stem cells are no better than adult stem cells.
They support "saving the world" view in terms of environmental issues.
Like conservatives want to drink dirty water.
They believe all life is sacred.
Unless you are in the womb.
