Default Canada snubbing US on defense shield

What's the deal with that? The US position should be: Fine. We'll shoot down any missiles before they hit the US, but won't deter any heading for Canada. Give them what they want. What's the big deal?

Bush asked for too much, at the wrong time, in the wrong way. Asking for support for the missle defense shield in general (other than one specific part, like use of Canadian waters for example) while embarrassing the PM, when most of Canada does not support the missile defense system, was a sure fire way to get a "no" for an answer.
