"Exiting this road constitutes trespassing," reporters were told in a flyer handed out by the band. "Repeated attempts to interview witnesses is viewed as interfering with a federal investigation. Under the Authority of the Red Lake Tribal Chairman, you may be removed from the Reservation."
Quote:
The AP photographer, J. Pat Carter, said the pair were driving on Minnesota 1, which they believed was permissible. They took pictures of a roadside memorial, and a moment later several police cars pulled them over. The officers had their guns drawn, Carter said, and one of them said Carter had a gun in his vehicle. Carter said he had no gun and believes they saw his photo equipment. After being handcuffed briefly, Carter and the pair were released.
I wonder what they (the Indian Nation) are trying to hide???

In most towns, the First Amendment would keep police from chasing journalists off of public streets. But the Red Lake Nation considers itself a sovereign nation.
Here you go--they're not thinking like Americans. They don't want any "outsiders" (or should I say "foreigners") interfering with them or their way of life.
If they, the Indian Nation, get my tax dollars, which they do, then I should be entitled to know when, where, and how those tax dollars are being used. If they are a seperate nation, then why do they get state aid.
Can anyone name a foriegn country that receives aid directly from any state? The tribes get both federal and state aid. Sounds like reverse discrimination to me.
Anyway, we have a right to know.

Personally I think they're should pay their own way, including state and federal taxes. The history of the Native American is long and turbulent, but essentially they lost the war against the white settlers.
We can (and should) respect their human rights, but when you get right down to it, winner takes all.

BUT THEY ARE a sovereign nation, the Indian Nation.
They are dual citizens of the Indian Nation and the United States.
Make them choose I say. One or the other.
Shootings on reservations are a daily occurance, I have buddies up in Crandon Wisconsin who tell me that they hear gun play on a regular basis, and it's not uncommon for them to get into it with a sheriff.
I went to the bar on 2 dif res up here in montana, With a horses trader I was dealing with SHORTLY.It was nuts they tryed to spook me in to hiding in the truck.Sevral of them packed there guns around .I did the same thing I did in north KC. you just do not act woried, just go about your thing.
When I was there I watched the horses trader get 3 of them very very drunk than buy his horses for very very cheep.
I allso saw many bar fights, heard some shooting, saw them destroy a truck with 4 ballbats [truck belonged to a WHITE guy].
I did not leave till about 1:00 am with the crappy horses trader. [he is an indian allso]
All in all if you do not have money to spend stay off the res.
Tribal sovereignty means that; it's sovereign. I mean, you're a - you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And therefore the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities.
