I think the Iraqis, having finally tasted freedom, are finally growing out of the oppressed mentality and turning on their oppressors! If this catches on, the Jihadists won't last long in Iraq. I'd love to have seen the looks on the faces of those three dead Jihadists when the residents of that neighborhood stood their ground and punched their ticket to L-Allah-land!

You nailed it, drift. Most Iraqis hated and feared Hussein, and after living under him for decades they weren't so sure of their own newly won freedom. Now that we've worked together to keep improving the country (and thus the citizens quality of life), they can see why it's worth defending.
It might sound a bit silly, but the average Iraqis are continuing to make me proud. We've certainly done our fair share of fighting and dying for the cause, but the Iraqis are right there with us.

This is a great story. Every time I see that a bomb killed a bunch of Iraqis, I say to myself, "Come on guys, when are you going to get in the game?!?"
Maybe they finally are. . . .
A similar incident occurred right after the election. Some thugs were trying to carry out a threat against voters and a handful of them were killed.

like the citizens of that small town in Minnesota back in the 1800's that shot the crap out of the James gang. Good! I hope they do it more frequently. The next step is to hunt down the other ones that they know are there and kill them too.

It will take some time, but the Iraqi people them selves are going to be the ones to rid Iraq of these cowardly dirtbags! As already stated they have tasted freedom and are proving they like it.
