Default global warming

I was reading the post about Alaska drilling and at the end there was mention of pollution. Now, I'm not saying that I subscribe to the theory of greenhouse gasses affecting a measurable change in the earth's temp (plus I like to use a lot of hairspray), but I cannot deny the fact that things certainly feel warmer as a whole. I know that we, here, are expecting one of the worst fire seasons seen for a while unless some drastic weather changes occur, up until a couple of days ago, there was practically no snow up to 7000-8000"+/- around here. I read that there is virtually no snow on mount kilimanjaro which hasn't happened in 6000 years or something, according to the article. I know that the earth is a dynamic entity and fluctuations are to be expected, but do you think that industrialization is having a marked effect and would you catagorize it as a potential or inevitable crisis?

As you say its a ever fluctuating thing the earth& its climates.

We are also in a drought, low snow pack mild winter trend etc . But those can or could last a hunderd yrs if not thousands of yrs . The last glacier(1) here has been reciding for many yrs.

Dramatic globel climate change will & has happed in the past without our inputs-
Could we be speeding it along some? Maybe- does modern man think he can control world weather patterns- encluding long term ones? No matter the resaon for there being.

Warming does sound better off hand then a massive ice sheet up too 2 miles thick covering half of n america tho

I don't quite understand the link between drilling in the ANWR, pollution and global warming unless they are intimating that the extra fuel will introduce more so called greenhouse effect gasses. Does it make a difference where the fuels originate? Regardless of where or how we get the fuels, we are going to use them, we have to in order to survive, for heating, cooking, manufacturing, farming and for transportation to name only those things that come to mind in a few seconds.

This entire global warming non-sense and the hype surrounding it would make a lot more sense and have a lot more impact if the people pushing the agenda had any credentials in the field of climatology or meteorology. Officially, they have not even addressed the most probable cause of any recent trends in increased temperatures which is the cyclical nature of the activity of the sun. We are in an up swing trend for sunspot activity and the energy released by the sun during these cycles causes increased temperatures here on earth. Beyond that, if infact we were in any significant warming trend, your fire problems would be a thing of the past. Warming trends in the long term lead to significant increases in cloud cover (due to increased rates of evaporation over the oceans) and then a corresponding increase in rain and snowfall.

I feel that man has an effect on the earths climate, but not enough of an effect to stop or change normal cyles which the earths climate has gone through for thousands of years, there has been more then one ice age with warm spells between, man would really have to do some major polluting for thousands of years to effect any long term climate changes.

Hell, warmer is GOOD isn't it ? Melt a few icebergs and glaciers, lets get some more moisture inthe atmosphere. Warmer and wetter ? Heck yeah, I'll take that !

I think it has some effect. However, any time I start to underestimate Mother Nature, she puts me back in my place. I tend to believe the earth's natural climate cycle has more to do with weather or warming than anything we could do short of total nuclear war.

I'm all for preserving the world's forests and oceans, as well as cutting pollution emission, though. I just don't think we should put those priorities above everything else.

This may be one of those false "facts" that has been floating around, but ...

I once heard that a major volcanic eruption releases more cfc's than the total amount of hir spry, carb cleaner, Lysol, etc. that mankind has ever produced.
