If you didn't take China as a serious threat before, perhaps now is a good time to start. Rabid, dogmatic communists have never been a laughing matter. They're doing a good job give the world a false sense of security with their captitalistic reforms, but the leaders in Beijing still maintain total power and still want to dominate Asia, and the world if they think they can get away with it.
Putin is sending Russia right down the road it came from, and now that they're allying themselves with China the democratic world has twice as much to worry about.

The situation of Taiwan and China is interesting. If war draws closer, China's out of date military would unquestionably come out the loser. China would be defeated and a democratic government would be established as hastily as possible. A democratic government in China, just the thought brings a tear to my eye. If China is prepared to make a sacrifice, undergo more annihilation than Taiwan or America in order to triumph on an issue of sovereignty, there would be no victors in a conflict of such scale.

In case you've been asleep the last few years, China's military is stone age. In fact, it's quite capable. they're equipped with pretty up to date armor, they use the battle proven Kalashinikov rifle, their Air Force is good but no match for ours, and their navy is semi-decent. In a one on one slug fest, we could whip them. But with all our boys in the Middle east and Korea, a war with china could be problematic. They probably have the 2nd strongest military in terms of sheer numbers as well as weapons IMO. I think we're the strongest because of our technology which could beat the snot out of any chink army. we'd lose a few men for sure against them. But as for getting it done very fast, its not feasible. I would predict a long drawn out war just becauase they've got so many darn people.

Russia and China are supposed to be friends and hate the US. We are supposed to give China the ability (technology, steel making capabilities, and first and foremost.... $$$$$$), to become the world's largest, scariest army - all in the name of a wonderful politically correct, fuzzy-azz global economy.
