Default Boston MASS banning guns again!

Here is a story from Boston.

WCVB-TV 5 Report
Quote:
Saying Congress is more concerned about steroids in baseball than guns in the hands of terrorists, some Massachusetts activists are seeking to add two types of guns to the list of those banned in the commonwealth.
Quote:
They want to take steps on the state level to try to protect people in Massachusetts. Some state lawmakers and law enforcement leaders are working to ban the 50-caliber Barrett assault rifle that would fire the ammo, as well as the 5.7 handgun, which can pierce police body armor.
Quote:
Lawmakers and activists say a recent report found that the FBI approved gun applications for 47 suspected terrorists last year.
Quote:
The Government Accounting Office report found the gun transactions proceeded because no prohibiting information -- such as felony convictions -- came up during the background checks. There was no crosschecking with counter-terrorism watch lists.
Here we go again. The liberals are trying to ban guns they don't want criminals to have. We have repeatedly seen that gun bans do not keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Criminals are going to get the gun regardless what the law says. All this will do is turn law-abiding citizens into criminals.

What I don't understand is why this doesn't violate both the 1st and 2nd amendments to the constitution. Owning a firearm is no different that owning art. If I own a piece of modern art, that most of the public has no use for, but I can still own it, then a firearm is no different. After all, that .50 cal is a real piece of art and isn't art freedom of expression?

This will probably be passed because the liberals know how to insight fear. Bigotry is alive and well. If you own a gun"¦"¦ OR The public isn't responsible enough"¦"¦.

The FBI didn't do their job correctly, and now WE have to suffer.

The more I write the madder I get, so I'd better just finish this post by saying"¦

Disgusts me, but certainly doesn't surprise me. [:'(][:@]

That's how these gun grabbers operate. They just have to use "cop killer" in a sentence to get the pro-liberals out there to go up in arms (no pun intended) about some evil firearm.

We know that no .50 weapon has ever been used to kill any police officers (or anyone else for that matter) in the U.S., shoot down any planes, or committ any terrorist act. We also know the the 5.7 AP ammo is already restricted in the U.S. The 5.7 pistol is just another small caliber handgun without it.

Not to mention that criminals buy their weapons on the black market without any of these liberal politicians' controls.

Sorry Aught, the way people seem to get whacked here for bad words, I'd better stick to what my mama taught me, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything.

I guess the message is stay out of Massachusetts! As far as I'm concerned, it is not my mission in life to rescue or warn people in other states of their collective insanity. If we are right, in the course of time they will suffer for their foolishness, and this suffering will act ultimately as a corrective. That is, they will confront a problem and ultimately solve it correctly.

I get concerned when federal laws threaten to impose a blanket gun ban in place. This is more worrisome in my opinion. If you choose to live in a liberal state such as Massachusetts, California, Illinois, et al, you are liable to suffer the consequences.

I grew up in Illinois and sometimes day dream about moving back there. At the same time, when I reflect upon some of the gun laws in Illinois and the general gun control trend afoot in Illinois, I decide that the day dream is not wise.

Alsatian:

Forgive me, but yours is a dangerous attitude. The "as long as it isn't happening in my back yard" attitude only helps to strengthen their view. First, they get MASS, then NEW YORK, THEN CALIFORNIA, then another and another. All the while, you are not concerned because it's not in your back yard.

Then one day, only your back yard is left. Now you stand alone, and there is no one left to help. They win by attrition. We must stand against these types of people, decisions, and laws wherever they try to take root.

"One piece of quack grass left in the lawn will eventually take over and destroy the entire yard."

bnhcomputing, does just apply to the city of Boston or to the entire Commonwealth. I grew up in a small town in the Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts and there everything shuts down for two weeks in October for deer hunting season. The thing is that even though Berkshire County is sparsely populated the shotgun only regulations for deer hunting applies there as well. As a result, nearly everyone I knew growing up had a .22 rimfire rifle and a 12 or 16 guage shotgun but very few people owned center-fire rifles since there was no real hunting application for them.

I like your point about guns as art. Even if a weapon has no practical value, which could probably also be said of paintings and sculptures, it can be very valuable to a gun afficionado. If they are not otherwise disqualified from owning a firearm (criminal record, ect.), these collectors should be allowed to own firearms even if they do not plan to fire them.

I still have my old single shot .22 rimfire which I dispatched many a Bay State rabbit and woodchuck with, but never I intend to use it again. It still has enormous sentimental value to me because it reminds me of the good times I had hunting as a youth. However, in order to display it on my wall and not run afoul of California law which requires operational firearms to be stored in a safe, I have had to remove the firing mechanism from it.

Good thing the gun banning goobers don't know about the $89 CZ-52 . They are much more powerful than the Five seven, and the 7.62x25 Tokerov round they fire will penetrate pretty much any body armor except for the stuff with armor plates meant to stop rifle bullets. I guess it isn't sufficiently eeeeeevil enough to register on the radar screen. Yet.

Massachusetts is the state where the patriots (not the football team) took up arms at Lexington and Concord and dealt the first blow to King George, not that I am suggesting anything.
