Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

i never thought it was for our benefit anyway.

they ought to take those profits and invest them in the development of alternative fuel sources.

the time is approaching quickly when oil just won't cut it anymore.

My understanding is that it won't change the price much, because we don't have the ability to refine the crude oil into fuel. So, the oil will have to be shipped overseas to refineries, then will probably be sold over there cause it would be more expensive to then ship it back here, thus paying the shipping twice, once each way.

I heard about the refinery issues back in 2000. Apparently the oil companies deliberately shut down refining capacity to help boost prices (read as gouging). I haven't heard that they ever came back online.

Just a coincidence I'm sure.[&:]

Of course you do realize that the majority of Alaskan crude is sold to China don't you? It was all just smoke and mirrors.

Yes, the United States does have the availablity to drill AND refine for oil. Anyone ever been to South-Central Wyoming? There is a company called Sinclair. They drill for, and refine all the fuel they produce, right here in the USA. My dad used to work there. And the gas isn't too bad either. Usually also cheaper than others like Chevron by more than $.10 a gallon. They aren't stupid. Provide lower prices, but stay close enough to the competition to make a comfortable profit.

Except Alaskan crude is considered poor quality and is sold to China and ***an for the most part. ANWR oil will NOT be used here, it will be sold. They already said so. The joke is on you people. You won't get lower gas prices because the crude is going overseas, but who knows what is going to happen to a great hunting resource up here?

What really makes me worry is that for the small dent in the oil imports that drilling is going to make, what looms ahead that congress pretty much changed its position over a couple years time? I predict gas prices of $2.50-2.75 by summer, drilling the ANWR won't effect anything for at least 3 years. With China buying up all of what used to be surplus oil along with other resources- steel, aluminum, etc, it will only be a matter of time when we are pulled down to their level of standard of living when it will cost us $500 a month to heat our homes in the winter, gas will cost $7 a gallon, and anything made out of plastic will cost 3x as much to produce.

Maybe its past time we stop buying and importing crap from China, and start putting up windmills on every windy spot in the country, even if it pisses Ted Kennedy off that a windmill ruins his view at his vacation cottage.
