RE: Out sourcing paying off for G.M.
I recently added GM to my very exclusive list of car manufacturers that I would never buy from again, previously only Ford and Chrysler were on that list.
My wife's car with a Buick 3800 in it just crapped out for the 2nd time in 3 months. Seems GM 'improved' the nearly perfect and dead reliable Buick 3800 by replacing the perfectly good aluminum intake manifold with a platic P.O.S. I guess they improved it by saving $100 per car, pocketing the money, and assuring that every damn one of them engines will need an expensive manifold replacement or overhaul after 70,000 miles.
From the looks of things, the GM 3.1 and 3.4 L V-6s are even far worse lemons that can seize up without warning at any time around the same milage when the intake manifold gaskets get corroded through by the corrosive dexcool coolant which then dumps right into the crankcase- great fun to be had at 70 MPH.
From what I've read and from what I can tell GM pretty much denies that there is a problem with the cooling system on their v-6s made between 1996 and 2003, and are glad to pocket all of the receipts for what is becoming one of the most common (and expensive) repairs on their fleet of vehicles.
Honda or Nissan for me baby!
